Nylocs & threads

I'm raking through the SVA book here and can't find any ref to it.

Does anyone know if the there is a figure on how many threads should be visable when using nylocs

I take it if it's flush with top of nut that aint good enough.

Cheers

Darren

i cant remember if its 2 or 3 threads, or the shaft diameter that must protrude. Probably works out similar in the end.

No personal experience, but everything I've heard is that they look for at least two threads.

I would say 2 threads as well. Std engineering practice is usually 2 for visual check. Anyway 100mm of bolt in fresh air mucks up the power to weight ratio

I had probs at SVA for number of threads protruding, in the end, I found some nyloc half nuts - sorted.

In order to get the magical 2/3 threads showing is it OK to use HT type T nylocs, which are thinner than standard, on suspension bolts.
