Exhaust

Hello,

I am after a 4-2-1 exhaust manifold and silencer for my Mk Indy Fireblade. Anybody got any ideas were i can get one

Second MK - MK ENGINEERING although 4-1 is better suited for this engine as it gains in mid-range.

Makes a cracking job!

I will have to ring MK engineering. I had phoned MK and they only reported doing the 4 -1 system. I am only really after any 4-1 or 4-2-1 both with equal lenght pipes

Raven exhausts did mine,they do one off,exhausts to your specification,they did one for my rry injection blade,they are based in Sheffield as well.

about £280 Jim,that was for the manifold and link pipe,I provided my own silencer,they don't mind if you do that,although they do some good quality race cans of there own,check out there webb site www.ravenracing.co.uk ,I think.

4-2-1 exhaust

Just to correct info above, 4-1 exhausts tend to produce a peaky top end performance i.e. not great in the midband. One reason why exup valves are used to help flatten out the flat spot in the midband on bikes.

A well designed 4-2-1 exhaust will improve the midband while maintain the top end power of a 4-1 exhaust. Hence this is what most racers (sidecar and RGB for example).

Its critical to get the lengths and sizes of pipe right to get good results. The man in the know up north is Tony Law (don't have contact number).

Just buying an off the shelf one size fits all exhaust may be OK but you could easily be robbing yourself of 5-10hp. I suggest you find a good one (with known power plot) and copy it :-)

One difference between manufacturer's are the quality of the bends... MK Engineering use Mandrel bending which does not compress/reduce the tube diameter often associated with formers

Sorry to hijack the thread but I'm after an exhaust for my r1 indy, is the best place again mkengineering for these and would it be a 4-2-1 or a 4-1 I'd need?

May make great power but some of the ugliest things I've ever seen.

Depends what you want.. I would point you in the direction of the guy who did mine but it would be really, really expensive. Mine was apparently £600+ at 'mates rates.'

Yep, MK Engineering. Personally, I'd go for a 4-2-1 system.

AFAIK the R1 is best with 4-2-1 and MK Engineering do them in stainless steel regularly. Contact them via WEBSITE or email direct MK Engineering Email

Paul G - as advised by others you definitely want a 4-2-1. As for pipe sizes and lengths, you won't go far wrong using the dimensions published on this website http://striker.r-one.co.uk/ (Richard Miles Striker R1 site).

There is some controversy over whether you pair 1,2 and 3,4 or 1,3 and 2, 4. I think it doesn't make that much difference, the critical thing is the pipe dimensions.

I used Rich Miles design on my MK Indy R1 and it made 138 bhp at the wheels at TTS using a modiifed R1 can. Thats around 160+bhp at the crank. It works :-)

I'm sure Martin at MK would be able to make a nice exhaust to these dimensions
