How to prove engine age ?
What’s the best way of obtaining some proof of engine age for the nice man at the SVA centre?
I have a Rover V8 engine which came from a 1988 Range Rover, the engine number fits with the info on Rimmer brothers site, but this only gives a range
for its age 86 onwards.
How do I get some documents to prove its age for the test?

Owners club perhaps?....Although a bike, i put a Husky MX bike on the road and got an age thing from the importers based on frame and engine
number....cost £30 though but well worth it as when paperwork came thru i got a brand new plate of the time....R- reg 1997....bike was actually a
1989!!!!

The donor vehicle V5 is the best way. If you know it's reg and it hasn't been declared scrapped you can apply for it. If not you could
possibly get the V5 of another breaking range rover and transfer the engine numbers.
Failing that I know people have had success writing a letter to the manafacturer requesting proof of engine age by the engine number. Dunno which
manafacturers are helpful this way though.

Try looking on the Cobra Club website. I seem to remember them having a list.
Triton, I registered a CR 500 on the road for enduros, but an 89 Husky, I remember them, you need help.

I seem to remember the DVLA have a service which will tell you things about the car an engine came from, by engine number. Not sure quite what; reg
number, vin etc, but something you can get the age from. It was discussed on this forum awhile back.

will second Liam on this one.
I have come to the conclusion that V5's are the way to go on this!
If you don't have one then there are plenty of people with rotten rangies of a similar age that could conveniently donate a V5 that could then
have an engine number change made with DVLA!
Was talking to a DAX rush owner the other day who swapped a 4.6 RV8 engine number and cc change onto a sierra XR4x4 donor car, and then successfully
used the V5 from that!
