My new BEC prop

Hi,

For those of you who have asked:

My prop was from Dunning and Fairbank.

http://www.propshafts.co.uk/

It's two piece with a torque resiliant tube and sliding rear section.

And cost me £165.00.

They can make any prop to your spec with any flange on either end.

Nowt to do with me, just a satisfied customer, especially for the price.

Do you have a detailed pic of the TRT section of the prop? I'm nearing the need to purchase one and keep reading of the glories of the TRT--yet have never seen one myself. Any help is appreciated!

That’s just what I’m after and the price is right! Is it made from all new parts or did u supply a donor prop for butchering?

It's all new parts and I didn't have to supply anything apart from the length, flange size etc.

The TRT is just after the centre bearing and looks like a small tube going into the main prop tube and firmly mounted with rubber, but it's a bit hard to see.

You could probably knock 17.5% off that price (UK VAT)...

..but add USA duty & taxes...

How did you determine where to put your center bearing? How accurate were you with your measurements?

Hi Chris.

I welded a 6mm vertical plate opposite where my shin would be and measured from the centre of this plate to the prop adaptor face on the engine and from this cenre line to the flange face on the diff.

My dimension were + & - 1mm and were fine.

No harm in sending them an email.

Looking at the prop I got from my celica donor, it seems to be made with a TRT. Outer sleeve bonded to rubber, then bonded to inner sleeve. Isn't that what a TRT is?

That's what I understand of a TRT yes Robert. I'm sure Pat will clarify.

It works similarly to a cush drive on a motorbike to reduce vibration and dampen out jerkiness (is that a word?). From what I hear it makes a huge difference to the driveability of BECs on and off the throttle at low speeds...

Pat,

Did they specify having the centre bearing in the front section of the prop?

Only my donor prop has the centre bearing in the rear section and I just wondered whether there was any difference from a reliability/safety standpoint?

TRT - No idea how it works and how it's made, just asked for it as I've heard BEC need them.

Centre Bearing - No idea, I just told them where I wanted it in relation to the vertical plate on my chassis.

TRT is like a large metallastic bush. I first had my R1 prop shaft made (by D&F) without one, but then had one retro-fitted about 2 months ago.... What a difference! It still clunks a bit at low speed, but nothing like as bad as it was!!!!

I would highly recommend one.....

(D&F are nothing to do with me also - just another happy customer!)
