Nose cone SVA / Aerodynamic wings

Hi,

Following on from this thread:

http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=33538

I bent a 4" wide piece of ali to shape like a wave. Covered it in brown parcel tape and laid up two layers of 300g matt.

Once set, I pulled it all apart, trimmed it and ended up with this:

Really flexible, which I didn't expect and really hard to snap (as I tried with an offcut).

Needs some fine fettling.

Really easy to make and trim to fit any nose and would require minimal body filler to make it smooth.

I reckon it could be even stuck on with polyurethane, but mine will be bonded on.

Pat,
You will need to roll the edges so the sva man doesn't accidently slip and cut his arm off....bond those bits on ...when set...use plasticine to create a nice return then glass up to that....when it's gone off pull the plasticine off and bingo....blob of filler to sort bumpy bits

Will the glass/resin not stick to plasticine?

Return edge would look neater Pat although you may still have to have edging on it for SVA.

Pat,
Before you stick them on....really badger the nosecone with a grinder around the area they fit to....then glass from behind and a wee bit on the front....nice and strong then

The packing tape dodge really works doesn't it. It saved me hours of work when I was doing my headlight transplant.

Coming on nicely Avoneer
