Escort quick rack
Ive been looking into getting a escort quick rack for my kit.
Can anyone help me in figure out what to get.
Seen some second hand ones on www.rallyusedparts.co.uk which is a good site with lots of stuff.
Seem to go for about £60 on there I then looked on Rally Design and it looks like they have some brand new for about £75 for a 2.6 Ratio.
What would be a good price to go for ?
What is a 2.6 ratio is that 2.6 turns lock to lock ?
Can i get a kit to convert my current rack into a quick rack as its a nice recon from luego?

Yes,The 2.6 bit is the turns from lock to lock no idea on price though, but as you say, there are lots of bargains to be had for escort donor bits on
rally spares

They often crop up on ebay cheapish. U can get a kit to rebuild your rack from burtons etc but theyr about 100 quid.
There are mixed views about quick racks some say you need them some say you dont. Id get a rack rather that rebuild yours so yo can swap back if you
dont get on with it.

Built the purple peril!! Let the modifications begin!!

Quaife supply rack and pinion:
Ford Escort Mk2 LHD quick rack & pinion kit 2.5 QSD1D001 £70.00
You will still need bellows, shims etc kits a bit generous as all you get is the rack and pinion (long or short)

QH still do MK2 Escort racks for approx £30. Your local motor factors can order one. They are standard ratio but are brand new ! You can then fit it
and upgrade later if you decide to.
"just like that !"

I would say (now I have my £100 2.4 rack!) that the ideal rack would be the 2.6 ratio rack from rally design.
It is an absolute bargain, and 2.6 turns lock to lock would be ideal in my opinion.
The sierra PAS rack is 2.8 turns and is just slightly too slow in my opinion, so 2.6 should be ideal!

Bugger! I have just parted with £70 for what was supposed to be a new rack, it was a recon or was that a right con?
Who/where are QH?
Sorry for showing my ignorance.
Tell them about the bent treacle edges!

I'm puzzled... (again!)
I had a look on the Rally Design page, and the cheaper racks are either 2.4 turns or 2.9
2.4 is probably a bit quick for road use, but 2.9 doesn't seem much different from the standard 3.5
Are people seeing racks that I'm missing?
rgds,
David
