Advice please... Do i really need a cat ?

Could you guys please give me some advice.
I'm building a 1999 fireblade engine model SC 33 with carbs in my MK.
I always thought every car with an engine that's from 1995 or later always needs a cat.
Yesterday a friend came by who ownes a Westfield, he told me i probably won't need a car because i'm using carbs.
Could you guys please give me some advice about this subject because i don't know if i can get the car through SVA without the cat.

Cat is compulsory for engines after summat like 1995 I believe..

You May be able to pass the emissions without, but they are supposed to look for one fitted to minimise HC emissions...

Opinions are like backsides..
Everyone has one, nobody wants to hear it and only other peoples stink!

The very fact you are running carbs would make getting thru the SVA without a cat more tricky as they are not as easy to setup for low emissions. There are a few companies who will loan you a cat or sell cats which they say will get a carbed car thru the SVA. Using a air bleed system is another popular way to try and get emissions down.

You *really* need to talk to someone in your country. Asking people here... asking me, who's in California, is going to give you all kinds of answers completely useless for your situation. Just contact your local agency and ask them; they're the ones who know, they're the ones who will test you.

The UK has the SVA, so presumably the car will be brought to the UK for an SVA else why ask the question?

Marco,
speak to Luc Haselier, he had a mk with a "blackburn Automotive"??? lambda-system on a motorcycle-engine. With this system and a cat you can pass the emission test.
The Lambda-reading should be 0.97-1.03, with a co of max 0.3% and HC of 200ppm max. at 2500-3000rpm, lika a normal dutch viergasmeting.

Where do all the dutch boys go?

Hey guys i'm aso dutch,

Where do we all go for the "sva" for our car???

On the RDW there isn't much info about the theme?
Do whe go to our neighbours? its an option but when entering holland we will need an re test anyway? Do we do the "individuele goedkeuring?"

Would like to hear from you all?

Walter
