Mk2 Golf GTI fuel pump

I'm trying to find a Mk2 golf GTI fuel pump for my TB/megasquirt conversion. I'm told these are ideal as the have a built in swirl pot. I thought I would try my local Motor factors to see if a new one was reasonably priced(too cold for scrappies) , but there were loads of different ones to choose from.

Does anyone know what the part number is, I been searching loads with no joy

Many thanks
Steve

I don't think you'll find what you're looking for as an assembled unit. You'll need the various components, I can start the list with the following but it's not complete...
Accumulator - this is the plastic tank (swirl pot) the pump sits in
The 'in tank' immersed pump
Rubber Bobbins - 4 to mount it to the frame
Mounting frame - Which the accumulator bolts to.

TBH I think it will be prohibitively expensive to buy all the bits separately (not trying to p#ss on your chips) and you'll be better off wallowing in the mud/making a few phone calls and finding a secondhand one.

There are so many at the factors because through it's life the Mk2 GTi had at least 3 different injection systems fitted! K-jet and Digifant, to name 2, which run at different fuel pressures.

shimming solid lifters is a job for a friend...

Hi
I think you will find that the accumulator costs about £30 from a VW dealer and I think there is a spare pump in my garage. Failing that there is a VW breakers not far from me in Suffolk that sells the lot for about £30.

Got the golf GTi fuel pump. I was lazy and paid an extra 5 quid for them to take it off.

Can anyone tell me what the connections are and what angle i have to mount it at.

Cheers

I believe it is as follows:

Yellow - Inlet from your low pressure fuel pump.
Red - High pressure outlet to your fuel rail.
Blue - Return pipe from your fuel pressure regulator
Green - Low pressure return to your fuel tank.

The unit is fixed to the floor of the Golf by the metal mounting bracket so that the grey plastic piece with the blue and yellow pipes is at the top.

I would be interested in your mounting ideas as I will be doing the same in my Westie soon.

Cheers
Chris

If you clean it ;-}
You will find that there are arrows that indicate into or out of the accumulator.

I have mounted mine on the back of the bulkhead behind the passenger seat with the pump at the top, it needs to be that way in order to allow the return to the tank to take any vapour/air back out of the system.

Hi there

Does anybody now the pressure/flow rate specs for these pumps? Will they be able to deliver fuel for a much higher power application?

Cheers,

liam

I'm not sure of the flow rates but was told they are fine for 220bhp maybe somebody can confirm this. I am only running 170bhp though.

Cheers for the info chris, just been looking at the car and not sure where i will mount it now I have it LOL. I think I will make a couple of brackets of some sort, I will post what I do.

I have now cleaned it too keith, but going by the arrows you mention I would have plumbed it wrongly as I would have thought the arrow was from the tank then too the injector rail NOT from the rail to the tank. whoops!

Cheers

Steve

Hi Liam,

There was an article in PPC a few months ago about putting a 1.8T in a MK2 Golf. They reckoned the MK2 (16v?) pump was well up to the job of a high spec 1.8T

HTH,
James
