Can deodorant start an engine?

I was told today that deodorant can start most engines if sprayed down the carbs instead of petrol.

Is this true?

Pick a nice smell so at least the resulting explosion won't upset the neighbours too much!

Most aerosols thses days have butane as propellant -- but just consider what else is in deoderant.

I have seen Propane from a gas blow lamp used instead of Easy Start

Don't some of the aerosols use propane as a propellant?

Damn BritishTrident beat me to it!

WD40 will start an engine. I would have thought that butane or propane are more combustible. That is assuming the gas stays in the throttle bodies / carbs for long enough

Deoderant works wells. Iv started many an engine with that. Lynx Java works well and makes the engine smell nice.

As said WD40 will fire it up aswell.

I used it on the lawn mower and the young lasses face was a picture when it started.
She moaned like crazy when I asked her to bring the really stinky stuff and was amazed when I sprayed it and it started first time.

I've always had good results with de-icer. Even without any fuel in the tank you can keep an engine running if you pulse the injections. Basically an anilogue megasuirt.

WD40 blew the arse out of an old Suzuki X7 ......never touched the throttle yet it revved well into the red, it died a few miles later with a few melted bits

My neighbour put some lighter fluid (petrol type) down the plug hole of an old BSA Bantam and then kicked it over with the plug back in. Not for long though, it blew the plug back out and stripped the thread in the head.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

If things have been blown up with it there must have been way too much in there.

Just a quick squirt job done.
