Hi Matt,
I am very interested in a 3853 model but I need to know if it will work on an 8 cylinder Rover V8 engine. I couldn't see anything on the website
at first glance which would confirm this - do you know if it will work?
Also, can you please confirm exactly what is or is not supplied. I believe from the website that you get the dash, a loom and a speed sensor and
magnet kit. Is that correct?
I also understand it to be SVA compliant which is obviously very important for us Locost'ers.
If you can confirm it will work on a V8 then I think I will most probably have one (via Paypal).
Cheers,
Craig.

from what the supplier told me , it is SVA compliant, also you are right in what it includes.
i will find out tommorow if it works on v8 engines , is yours carb or injection ? as some ecu's have a rpm output.

Craig,
I bought one of the lower models a few months ago now.
You get the dash and all the wiring you need and a speed sensor as well. You need to supply your own fuel gauge sender though (standard 100ohm one
IIRC).
Its SVA compliant as its backlit and keeps a record of total mileage which cannot be reset. Its also E marked on the back, not that that probably
means a thing.
As for what tacho signals it will work with, mine has adjustment for 0.5, 1, 2 and 3 engine rotations per pulse.
See here for the instruction manual:

David

Matt
Well I havent got it in my car yet, but i rigged it up to a battery and its a nice bit of kit. Had a fiddle with all the settings which is a doddle.
The backlight is permanently on and bright, without being dazzling. The refresh rate on the speed is pretty quick as well, certainly an improvement
over a normal bicycle speedo.
I would recommend them anyway.
I know there a few people on here who have actually got them installed on their cars, and on the road with them.

You want the 2851 if you want a 2 series one. Unless you need a neutral warning light for a bike engine!
I think the round ones are more suited to bikes and quads myself, but each to their own

David,
Thanks for the link to the user manual I think I am correct in saying that it should work on a V8 although I would appreciate someone confirming my
logic:
V8 engine fires the ignition coil 8 times every 2 revolutions therefore 4 pulses per revolution (at the coil). That would rule out connecting the ACE
dash directly to my coil as I would need the option to have 0.25 revolutions per pulse and 0.5 is the minimum.
However, each spark plug on the V8 fires only once every two revolutions (like most multicylinder engines) and so if I connect the ACE dash to one of
the spark plug leads as shown in the manual then it should work fine.
Correct?
Cheers,
Craig.

i take it that, if you install this then you dont need to have a bright 6 module?
I love Pinto's, even if i did get mine from P&O!

You still need some warning lights that arent on that dash, namely a brake fluid level warning light, and an alternator/charge warning light. Hence
why I went for a simpler dash with seperate warning lights (a bright 6 infact), cost about the same in the end. You can buy individual warning lights
with the correct symbols on for about £3 each from people like VWP to add the missing ones.
Each to their own though
