Webber carbs on 1300GT
Right, I'm getting myself all confused. I am a complete novice and am building a car for the 750mc locost race series.
I have a 1300 crossflow out of a standard mkII escort. To change it to the GT spec I understand I am allowed (by race regs) to put in a Kent P103/104
cam. This is stated in the regs.
But for the life of me I cannot figure out which carbs I can use. Am I right in thinking that it is either a DGAV 32/36 or a DGV32/36 originally
fitted on the 1300gt models? If this is the case then why does the regs say 'any twin choke carb with one max 23mm choke and one max 24mm choke
venturi may be used.
I assumed that was what the 32/36 stands for (venturi sizes, whatever that means). OH, I'M ALL CONFUSED...
Can somebody please give me an idiots guide to what I can/cant use in the locost series.

If you look at your carb it will have the venturi sizes on it, I think they are moulded into the casting, I think the 32/36 is the choke size or the
max opening of the carb & not the venturi size, a venturi is a smooth reduction in the diameter of the inlet & then a smooth opening out
again, what it does is to cause the air to accelerate locally which reduces the pressure just locally, the fuel jet is placed here & the reduced
pressure sucks the fuel out, the more air that passes the greater the pressure reduction & the more fuel it sucks, the diameter of the fuel jet
the dictates the air/fuel mixture,

Cheers, so i'm making a calculated guess that unless modified in any way (ie bored out) I couldnt go wrong buying a 32 DGV/DAGV WEBBER?

Errr well no, not if you buy one that has 23 and 24 moulded into the casting - but bear in mind that it isn't the only size out there so you
have to watch out a bit especialy if you're doing the Ebay thing (and no, you can't alter the choke sizes on a DGV/DGAV if you buy the
wrong one unfortunately)
Cams by the way - you have to buy one from Kent cams that has been specialy stamped for Locost racing. They're exactly the same as a GT cam
apart from the numbers stamped on them - why? because people started getting a bit creative a couple of years ago with their cam profiles.....
