Renault Output Adapters

This is probably dumb question, but who makes the adapters for a UN1 box to Granada half shafts?

Cheers,
Rod

Try Andrew in Bar Props - 01639 646922 - South Wales so may not be much use to you - he knows his stuff though!

It did cross my mind to make my own.. I was thinking of taking the two original halfshafts, splitting the joint and turning one face off the original gearbox pieces to suit the ford halfshaft flange. That way I wouldnt need to mess round finding a broach to suit the splines etc. I havent done it to know its feasable, just been eying up the stubs and thinking...

I do have a lathe etc at my disposal, so if you had to find someone to work it all out and machine it , you will probally find its cheaper to buy the commercial ones..

Interestingly the renault halfshaft has the same splines as fiesta hubs. The ABS teeth need to be cut off and a shorter locking nut fitted otherwise its AOK. I hav'nt got round to fitting oil seals yet but its looking good.

Not sure how long the fiesta hub will last!!

The specialist adaptors are way too expensive for me at £180 a pair and if my renault/fiesta pairing breaks I'd be interested if you could swop halves of the CV's

adaptors

I wasnt really thinking about making a joint from two different parts, more that if you look at the original renault halfshafts, they have a thick alloy lump, and the commercial adaptors are just a spline one side with a dished face the other to suit the ford ones.
I reckon with some maching, you could cut a set of the renault ones to present a flat face to use a whole ford granada joint exactly like the commercial ones.

I just bought a un1 for 100 quid, does anyone want to murder me

Phil I just read the rest of your message, so preoccupied with getting a UN1 for £100, - I've never seen a granada (lobro?) cv joint - is the diameter of the renault CV large enough to take the ford CV bolt pcd?

Reason I'm thinking of changing is that at Doune this weekend there was a rash of sheared drive shafts and the chaps were using similar power engines and similar sized tyres so I'm anticipating problems

Dunno if the un1-013 is ok, havent picked it up yet.

For the output adaptor, check this page out :-
http://www.lamboreplica.co.uk/gearbox.html

Thats just presenting a flange to mount the whole granny halfshaft joint on. What I mean is im not certain but maybe its possible to turn the same part from the renault originals...
