advice needed for inlet and manifold stage

hi everyone,
i've purchased a 1.8 zetec engine with inlet and exhaust manifolds. i also have a 2 litre engine as well.

Can someone please advise what I need to do! im not too sure??

basically this photo is the current state although im not sure whats my next step..

obviously i would like to use the 2 litre engine and if its possible to use the inlet and exhaust manifolds I have from the 1.8 engine then I'd be happy as larry..

im waiting for delivery of the 1.8 with parts but when it arrives (probably up to the next weekend) i'll post a photo of it to help..

can someone point me in the right direction? many thanks for any suggestions

Well the 2l throttle body goes on to a 1.8 and 1.6 manifold if your going the standard efi route. Think there was a difference with some manifolds being plastic and some metal but dont quote that.

Depends if your 1.8 came from a escort or mondeo.

The escort has inletmanifold over the top, while mondeo goes down the side and up again. Escort has it's waterpump running in opposite direction (better for kitcar) then mondeo (because of powersteeringpump). Escort has a shallower flat sump.
Escort 1.8 Flywheel has 240mm clutchdisc while mondeo 1.8 has 220mm clutchdisc (needed for type9) And your 2.0 flywheel should be replaced by a 1.8 flywheel or a CVH 1.8 flywheel, but then it gets difficult regarding clutch parts.

Might of forgotten some, but i think i covered the most of it.

But anayway, I don't think you can use the standard inletmanifolds, either mondeo (too wide) or escort (too high).

The thing I'm going to try is a self build plenum chamber with the original throttle body, MAF and ECU. Other possibility is use the same manifold and throttlebody with a megasquirtV3 that does coil ignition too.

In holland there one that cut up the original escort manifold and connected a carbon bike exhaust tube to it.

visit www.mk-indy.nl for more details of it. somewhere around june 2005 i think.

If you're going to use the 2.0 engine, then you did a good buy as you'll need the sump+oilpickup (gives more ground clearance) unless you already have a adapted sump.
you can use the inletmanifold when you make a construction as on the picture, it's the same manifold.

You can also use the waterpump as the 2.0 one runs in opposite direction and if you would like to stick with it you need a beltsetup with extra idler pulley. In order to replace the pump you need to get the timing belt off. Also the flywheel needs changing.
What ECU do you want to use? The original from the 2.0 or the original from the 1.8 or some aftermarket one like MS or more professional?

If you're going for the 1.8 ECU, then I would suggest to use the 1.8 engine instead of the 2.0. Then you're sure the injectors are OK, the MAF is compatible, no need to replace sump, no need to replace waterpump or make up some idler pulley, no need to replace flywheel. And it will run better. Only downside would be less power. But if you're after the power, then you shouln't bother with original induction and should go the (bike) throttle body route with a aftermarket ECU or MS.

So bottom line is that 2.0 with original induction is the worst route.
The 1.8 with original induction is the cheapest and easiest(only induction and maybe different clutch) tho least performant.
The 2.0 with (bike) TB or carbs and aftermarket ECU or MS is the most performant tho most expensive. But if you shop around it isn't that expensive. And you still need to do the conversions on the engine (flywheel, waterpump and sump)

I don't know if it will give you enough ground clearance in your car, but the escort sump is the mostshallow std sump. the mondeo unit is completely useless as it's waay deep.

Another solution is to buy a chopped sump or get is chopped.
