what is the smallest and lightest alternator in the scrap yards?

Nippon denso have a good reputation for fulfilling both of those. Not sure what car they're on though 
Sorry.
Try fleebaying for Nippon Denso- I'm sure they'll say which cars they're for....

What about a bike alternator ?
Small/light/cheap You just need to mod it to take a drive pulley.
Down side would be a lower out put.

This little fellah is quite small - 55 Amps too. Bedford Rascal I believe

Well, certainly similar to the Rascal one. Apart from the size, shape, pulley, colour and connections it's near on identical!

the one in razman's pic looks like a nippon denso one to me.
nippon denso off a kubota is the smallest I've seen as I've had 3 of the nippon denso ones and this is the smallest.

Anyone see the Alt fitted to the Zetec SE powered wildmoor car at Exeter?
The owner told myself and Robocop it was a motorcycle one, but damned if i can remember which one, I've send him an email asking which one it
was but so far no response.

I think you told me it was a Yamaha one Dan.
Just been down to the scrappy as it happens looking for alternators. The only decent sized one I could find was one from a Suzuki Swift. It was pretty
tiny. But had a multi belt and I need a V. Where can I find a V pulley that might fit?
Do motorfactors usually carry different pulleys?

I've brought different pulleys before, but be bu**ered if I can remember where from, although I do remember I was buying a alt at the time, so
I'd guess motor factors can get you different ones.
