What parts do I need?
Come on lads I want to see loads of response here......
I have finally sourced my donor - an E reg sierra 2l pinto EFI with 83000 genuine miles and ,believe it or not, a full service history.... for 40
quid... 
I started stripping at the weekend and I am keen to get rid of the unwanted chassis as soon as possible.
So anyway, what I want to know is this...
what parts do I need to salvage from my donor..... I know the obvious things but its all the little bits that 'you wish you hadn't chucked
away'
so come on tell me about all those little things you ended up having to go and get from the breakers because you hadn't got them from your
donor....

Whether you're keeping the efi or not I'd reccomend you extract the loom intact, especially from around the glovebox area! (ecu).
There is some useful info on what to keep and what not on www.rhocar.org.uk.
To be on the safe side I've tended to keep everything and only throw it away once the car's finished! But perhaps I'm too cautious.

my problem is I need to get rid of the chassis as soon as poss to make room for the kit, hence I want to get everything i could possibly need
first.....

Mate,
Just keep everything except the shell. BTW, I cut mine up, but it was as expensive to get someone to pick it up whole, and a load less hassle.
Then tag everything and shelve it if poss, and sweep the garage clean. I took off all switches, lightbulbs - everything. But then I'm a tight
git.
Some stuff sells on Ebay/Racing sites/Freeads (I made my £50 cost back) like spoilers, lights, doors, electric window motors, etc (yes really).
Then you have most of the garage floor space clear!!
And get a beer fridge too!

I agree- keep everything! You never know when it'll come in handy.
I managed to keep the entire loom intact on my GLS Sierra- the only wires I cut were those for the rear speakers!
Label everything! Particularly on the loom.
I could well be a year till you look at the bits again and I know from experience that stuff that seemed obvious at the time is pretty foggy.
I used some of those flip-up lid plastic boxes (£1.50 from CPC) to put screws/nuts and bolts in a labelled the pots.
What I wish I had labelled were things like the water plumbing and stuff as I've got no idea now.
Only thing I left in the car was the carpet (wet) and the rear-view mirror (by accident).

Oh yeah, good advice label everything!
I bought some of those resealable food bags and used a permanent marker to write the contents on them, got two sizes so I could fit some of the odd
brackets etc in and label them too.
Keep all the nuts'n'bolts (in the bags) even if you intend replacing them, that way at least you know what size you need to use in their
place
Unless the arrival of your kit is imminent I'd recomend reconditioning the bits you are going to reuse whilst the garage is empty, it's a
lot easier.

Keep everything bar the shell mate. You can stick most of the stuff you dont use on ebay or free-ads and get your 40 squid back
Box it all up it shouldnt take up much room..
