G12 or alternative?

Can anyone tell me if halfords sell G12 antifreeze or an equivalent?

I've looked on the halfords webpage but can't find anything.

If not does anyone know where I can get some? As I'm reluctant to pay VW dealer prices. £28.50 for .5 ltr!

That price you've been quoted seems massive. I've had antifreeze for the Audi from the VW main stealer before and its been cheaper... I'm pretty sure it was G12 plus from the parts department mind you where you are treated like a trade customer.

Cheers

I find the whole different price strategy across VAG group very annoying.

As Mark has pointed out it is usually cheaper to order parts for my old Audi from a Skoda dealer - next is VW and the highest prices by some margin are the Audi main stealers.

I recently went t my local independant VW garage asking for G12 as well.

I was bascially told on good authority that you can use ANY antifreeze type product. VW are just taking the piss!

I'd heard that if you mix g11 and g12 they gel and bugger the engine?

Anyone got a definitive answer on this?

Has to be said that my local VW dealer is known locally as a rip off merchant. May try the Audi or Skoda dealerships

Cheers guys

I work in the parts department at Heron VW in Newark.

1.5 litre bottle of G12 is £5.85 + the dreaded.

That's £6.87 in real money.

That's the manufacturers RRP, so I really don't know what the hell that other dealer has told you.

And no you shouldn't mix the antifreeze with other grades as it will mix badly and cause unspecified problems with your water flow..

Worth a call to VWuk perhaps?

Gonna swing past the Audi Dealership tomorrow to see what they have to say (it's on my way to work anyway)

Thanks again all
