landscape/drainage question
when the neighbor waters his lawn, his excess flows down into our yard, collecting around several trees, killing them.
I would like to build a low wall between the yards to stop his overflow. I am concerned about how deep into the soil the foundation must be to prevent
the water (now collecting on his side) from soaking into the soil and under the wall, only to make a new mudhole on my side.
any thoughts??

Couldn't you just have a quiet word with your neighbour and explain your situation. Maybe even invite him round to yours for a few drinks after
they've been watering the lawn to show him the effect it's having on your property?

Oh right, I see. In that case, create a well where the water drains onto your property. Stick a submersible pump in it and use a water canon to give
it him back. 
Seriously though, maybe create some sort of soakaway or drain to collect and direct the water to where you want it to go. Then build your low wall in
front of it.
