Oval Tube supplier?
I am looking for some oval profile tube for my wishbones. Aero profile would be ideal
My local steel stockholder, I S & G, can't get any.
Anyone have a website that they can recommend?
My wishbones are going to be about 2 ft long, so the steel needs to be strong.
I did try spa for their profiles but they want £30 per metre!

Aircraft Spruce (in the US) has it, but yes, it's very expensive. What price vanity?!

I am sure that the mild steel stuff can be bought here.
I think the rip off merchants buy it in, so I should be able to aswell

Why not contact MK or GTS and see if they can sell you a length or 2. I'll bet they don't pay £30 a metre for it!

Get in touch with these people:
http://www.ralt.co.uk/
They do wishbone tubing and machined ends ready to take spherical bearings and /or rose joints, all off the shelf.
Saves a lot of hassle. And they look smart too.
We used them for wishbone bits for our FS car this year.

I did tell you I can get it for you - this is the stuff you want isn't it?

I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator
headlights, indicators, mirrors etc, best prices in the UK! Take a look at http://www.furoreproducts.co.uk/ or find more parts on Ebay, user names
furoreltd & furoreproducts, discounts available for LCB users.
Don't forget Stainless Steel Braided brake hoses, made to your exact requirements in any of around 16 colours.

Russ, I am after the oval which is just a squashed round tube. Not the tube that has two flat sides.
The ralt catalogue has it 40 X 16.7 X 2 wall @ £7.02 in 6m lengths. I need two lengths.
I've emailed them.

SPA wanted £360 plus delivery!!!
Ralt's number is staying firmly on my mobile!

Ralt are very good, and their tube ends of varying sorts save a hell of a lot of time too.

flak monkey thanks for the heads up.
I see that they use ends to go in the tube, but I already have mine made.
I have noticed that some of the tubes are folded inwards and welded, but are others just welded and ground back?

You basically chop the ends of the tubes to fit whatever housing you want to use, then weld them in. Some of the ends (the ones for rose joints for
instance) require that you chop and bend the ends of the tube slightly too. Its all easy to do.
Does get a bit expensive when you start adding up the ends you need as well though

A novel idea - try approaching a maker of racing boat riggers I know - Eric Sims - they used aero profile high spec steel for their riggers &
might still have lines of supply.
http://www.esrowingservices.co.uk/
PS. Their riggersmith is also a pretty handy TIG welder geared up for welding tubes with all sorts of compound mitres....
