How much body roll?
Hey guys,
Does anyone have a measurement of how much body roll a Locost has?
Trying to figure out what sort of camber gain I need and I have no idea what to expect from a car as light as this. I know there will be
variations, I just need a ballpark idea.
Cheers.

You probably won't see much more than this. Springs are 320#/140#, 5/8" bar on front (26" center, 5" arms). Use a protractor
on the screen?:

Bloody Yanks! That looks like a Caterham as it has front anti roll bar but those tires are ridiculous!

And yes, it IS a locost.
And no, those tires are NOT street legal. But the grip is fantastic!

Thanks for the pics Greg. Seems like a lot of roll for an autoX locost? Even our camaros were flatter around the cones. A lot slower times though
I am looking to run a bit higher of a roll center with "softer" springs and a less agressive camber gain. Do you know what your camber
gains are? Looks like you're keeping your tires in good contact to the road.
Cheers.

At 1" bump I have 1° camber gain.
At 2" bump I have 2.3° camber gain.
I run close to -2° static.
A lower roll center is better, but harder to control body roll. Roll in and of itself isn't bad - as long as you can control camber.
A lot of cars look pretty flat on course (my locost looks ridiculously flat ~visually~), but hunt down a straight-on shot for an eye opener. I would
suggests no more than 3° roll to be your target.
Run a front bar - if you try to control all your roll by springs alone, the car will be brutally stiff.

Thanks Greg,
I am planning to have a car that performs well on bumpy surfaces so a softer spring/stiffer swaybar seems like a good idea. Ive tried the stiff
spring/soft swaybar thing before on other cars and felt there was room for improvement.
With my street driving I can run 1 to 1.5° static camber and not kill the tires. If I decide I need more at autoX I will pull a degree out.
If I manage to make it up to Kelowna this summer I will see if you are racing that weekend.
Cheers.
