Fire extinguisher required... ('cos I set fire to my car!)

Yes, I've just sunk to an all-time low and set fire to my wiring!

Following this fabulous thread I thought I had the FIA switch sorted. Apparently not!

I'd tested everything with a battery charger and all seemed well. Then when I connected the battery, the resistor caught fire. Because the resistor was under the scuttle, I went a bit OTT with the powder extinguisher and there's now powder-blue powder everywhere.

What a nightmare. I think I'll take-up knitting.

THe thing is, I still don't understand what went wrong! The FIA switch was off with the key removed.

Ouch.

It looked like you'd made a lovely job of it too.

Sorry to hear that, you must have had the resistor on the wrong side of the big bolt terminal and pointed at the battery not the engine.... to add insult the FIA switch is probally destroyed as well the quality IHMO is dubious especially for the price.

Lidl had the 2kg £9.99 extinguishers in again this week if that's good enough for what you need
Here

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Argh! I just don't know how I did this. I'm going to get help rather than try to burn the house down again.

3Ohm/11Watt Resistor
12V to ground if wired incorrectly

P=VI=12*4=48Watt

Yep that will melt hehe

Hope it asnt caused to much of a mess
