Special driving test required for big vehicle owners!
I'm trying not to blame all 4x4 drivers, but...
I went out for a blast along some nice twisty country roads this morning, and 3 or 4 times came across various Discovery/Land Cruiser type vehicles
way over on my side of the road!
It seems that they want to corner at the same speed as smaller cars, which they can't do by staying in lane. So, on blind corners, they cross
the white line before the bend to get a good swing in, and go across the line on the exit because of the speed they're doing... 
IT'S A LUMBERING GREAT TANK! SLOW DOWN BEFORE YOU HIT SOMEONE!
Feel better for saying that...

However i don't have a 4x4 but i do drive a 7 seater and they DON'T handle!!

I have to say i agree. If they want a big car, get a jag It will easily corner at speed and stay on the right side of the road.
Although i must say its not just 4x4's. I nearly ran into a 406 the other day because he was trying his best to make me hit the parked cars, so
i just stopped in the road and made him swerve round me 
How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

yes and do you notice these bastards never move over for you......... Oh yes I've got a big car look at how big my dick must be - moove over -
on to the muddy verge (gasp horror) - my nice clean 4x4 - get it MUDDY (faint)....
Not to say I've got a bit of a bee in my bonnet over crappy 4x4 drivers I just hate hypocrites who are so insecure they can't even be
polite.
I could go on- and on - and on it's so easy with all the horsy townees living in our area pretending to be country folk but never joining in -
unless they need summat.

I couldn't believe one a few years back - I came round a corner to find a Discovery on my side of the road - the reason? There was a 4"
deep puddle on the other side!

Well we could look at it two ways.
1) Surely going for a "blast" along a country lane is equally dangerous if not reckless. We have speed limits in this country for a
reason
2) These big 4x4 !- people in "normal" cars look at them and assume that because there 4x4 they can get off the road (and stop) to
let them past. It's not the first time I've met someone on a road (normal "b" road) and they have about a foot between there
passenger wheel and the verge and I've had to put one wheel of my old landrover (1988) onto the verge and slame on the breaks.
Remember we pay as much if not more road tax than a lot of other cars. So next time I may just stand my ground and force you into the
ditch.
Then there's meeting chav's in corsa's on a narrowish road - that a whole different subject and even more scary.
Before you critise - take a Big 4x4 along an narrow ish road and see how badly every body treats us.
So now the list is :
Government - (ban 4x4 campaings)
Environmentalist (they produce too much co2)
Fuel Companies (Hike fuel prices)
Customs & Excise (Road Tax)
Rambler's (Damage land)
Tree huggers (because there tree huggers)
Car parks (Mostly too low)
Congestion Charges
Custom Car Builders
Scot's do it better in Kilts.

i drive one as my daily vehicle
and i drive one all day at work
and the only time i cross the white line
is to pass some k**b in a 800cc city car
doing 20mph trying to save fuel and the
palnaet
or even planet

Yeah and they will try and keep it clean on a b road and force the 4x4 onto the verge.
That's it I starting the " Keep the 4x4 off the verge campaign " so car owners watch out!"

Aren't you aware that if you hit standing water you will either aquaplane or it will pull you into the verge/kerb.

Well I live in town so hate all 4*4s (and their drivers) cos 99.9% are just for people that lazy that they require a flipping massive car to haul
around their fat lazy arse.
Thursday morning I was trying to get to work. Rather misty dingy morning. I hate to wait for 3 minutes whilst the person in front tried to reverse
park their Porsche Cayeenne into a space about twice as long as the car.... It probably wasn't helped by the fact that they were determined to
continue wearing their sunglasses Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh!!!!!!!! Wearing sunglasses on a dingy dark morning just
about sums up poncy gits driving grotesque 4*4s that are too big for their (admitidly limited) driving skills. Lets face it, outside of the country
(where people might actually need 4*4 capability for off-roading), 4*4s and SUVs are only attractive to one group of people.... Bone idle, arrogant,
antisocial, selfish, ignorant tw@ts. (unless of course they also own a 7 in which case they're just misguided  )
I think 4*4 drivers in London should be forced to display special plates. Like the P or L plates but with a T on it.....
Oooooh- that feels better!!!!
Nothing like a vent against the nouveau-riche petite bourgeoisie with the taste, decorum and awareness of others of a turnip.......

Driving round the country lanes - I stick to my allocated lane, and rarely exceed the speed limit. If there was a police car behind me he would not
have any reason to pull me over.
Avoiding the puddle - I was doing less than 30 in a 30mph zone. He was doing around 25. There was absolutely no reason why he should be on my side of
the road.
So please stop having a go at me without knowing all the facts.

I think that campaign has been running around here for a while now.
Even in the countryside most 4X4 drivers don't need a 4X4 and have one because the have to keep up with the Jonses on the school run.

Well I/we have an off roader as I need one to tow my big (3200kgs) trailer. We cant afford to run two everyday cars so it has to be an off roader.
TBH I am fed up with people knocking off roaders when its really just down to the fact people cant drive.
Another thing that gets me is people who should know better call them 4x4 which they arnt unless you mean things like scobies aswell.
Also, I bet I get more MPG with my off roader than most of you get with your 7. So you cant call off roaders bad for the environment and then drive a
7.

That's why I started off talking about 'big vehicles' and not '4x4'.
I have no problem with anyone driving a discovery-type vehicle if they need one, and often those people don't drive them stupidly anyway. I
have several friends who drive these vehicles, mostly very well. In fact, my brother runs a Discovery - but he does live in the back of beyond in
Scotland, and his son is a gamekeeper who lives out in the wilds.
I DO have problems with those people who buy these things (a) because the think they're safer (b) because they think they're trendy. I
once followed one of these things along country lanes, watching it cut corners, ride over verges, driving at silly speeds (for that type of car) and
generally being a hazard. When I finally passed the car, it was a mother and kids - they'd have been MUCH safer in a Volvo.

Afterthought...
It's worth noting that I encountered quite a few ordinary saloons coming the other way this morning. All of them, without exception, driven at
some speed on their own side of the road, and caused me no bother whatsoever.

You forgot to mention that the majority of 4x4 drivers are extremely agressive - witness some of the dire threats on the posts here. They take their
agression out on other drivers - how? - by not being seen to give way, by having a safer car - for them - but not for everyone else. Sod them seems
to be the prevailing attitude. What about the other poor souls who are intimidated by these bullies - and then the same morions will turn round and
whine that they are not accepted by the community at large.
Dammit I,ve started ranting again - now see what you've done!!!!

The problem with that is today I just given it wash so its clean (last wash was last year, so how do you tell that I need an off roader if there is

Doesn't matter what kind of vehicle it is, people are still going to drive badly. No point crying about large vehicles when the drivers are to
blame.
BTW, what sort of trucks haul dirt around in the UK? I can't imagine the tandem axle trucks here running around the tight lanes over there.

We get quite large agricultural trucks round here, especially at this time of the year. Fortunately, most of them are driven at speeds appropriate to
the conditions.
That was my main point in the first post - I really don't care if someone wants a big vehicle, but they must appreciate that it won't
handle in the same way as even a family saloon, and swinging over the white line so they can corner faster is hazardous to everyone's health.

David - I think that you hit more than one nerve there!!!
Don't you think that driving in general has got worse though? It seems like a game of chicken on the roads these days - lets see how close the
BMW driver on the motorway can get to you before he scares you witless and you move over for him!
Look how many more parking dents your tin top gets every week.
These people don't all fit into the same bracket other than having little regard for me or my cars.
I am a cyclist and by far the worst are delivery drivers and mothers in MPV's. I was under the side of a 7.5 ton box van one day as he drove
around me on a country lane. I was still vertical but half of my bike was under his truck and the other was up against a wall!!! Still HAD to go
through though
bloody hell we're all at it now!!

the thing about safety is not about the driver of the SUV (im in america now, time for american words ), but of the poor soul who is in the other
car. Big car driver is safe due to his mass, not necessarily his design, whereas the dude in the little car will get totalled!
