new to locost game and need help!
i'm looking to build a locost from the ron champion book, with a fireblade engine, escort mk 2 rear axle, steering rack and electrics. first
question is, is this possible? is it the best way to go about it? i,m looking to build a very very fast car. will it be legal or able to pass the sva
test?
hope some one can shed some light on my situation and offer some advice on the best bits to use. cheers.

Firstly welcome to the forum - you will find a host of people on here who can help with all sorts of queries.
First answer then - Bike Engined versions are indeed possible, and growing in popularity in my opinion, although not the chapest way to get a car on
the road.
When you say fast, I assume you mean 0-60 type fast not top end?
It will be legal if you follow the SVA rules. The engine will need things like a cat if its over a certain age (1998?).
Your first job will be to do a few searches on this site (press the search button above). Also, have a look through the forum section called
BEC's.
See ya around!

cheers for the reply mark, i must admit i'm impressed with the forum and dedication that so many peolpe have for the construction of the locost
car. yeah when i mean fast, i mean the 0-60 time, i want about 4 seconds but i'm looking for a top end of about 120 to, if this possible with
the blade engine? also with the mark 2 axle and diff, is there different ratios, if so which one would be best for the speeds i'm after.
cheers

Gav,
Yeah, this is a fairly friendly bunch of blokes.
I think there are different ratios - best to spk to an expert though!!
Best put a post in the BEC section mate
All the best,

Hi, welcome aboard,
It is possible to build a car with those sort of specs. Wander onto the BEC section and have a search through, a lot of you initial questions will
probably be answered.
Just to give you an idea of top end speeds purely considering the gearing have a look here:-
speed calc

Staffs is close to derbyshire ? pop over i will take you for a spin in a home built blade engined locost that will dip well under 4 secs 0-60 and go
onto over 130mph, bring your camera and tape too.

Don't get in with that Ison bloke - bloody maniac!
Cheers

Note to all: I really don't know when to leave well alone. I tried to get clever with the mods, then when they gave me a lifeline to see the
error of my ways, I tried to incite more trouble via u2u. So now I'm banned, never to return again. They should have done it years ago!

Too true! Bloody dangerous - it took a whole day to get the silly grin off my face! (and 20 minutes to get the squashed fly off my sunglasses - take
goggles or a helmet)
cheers,

??? Did you re-buy the Isonblade for repair?? That car has to be the Isonblade, no? I'd be so happy to hear it returned to your hands for some
gentle care, although I heard the news that it was back on the road after some repair anyway.
BTW locostgav, for that sort of top speed, THE cost effective way for getting 4 secs 0-60 is bike engine.
