Riding a Monkey bike on the road?
As title really has any one ridden one on the road as it looks a fun way of getting to work every now and again 
And I could just about squeeze it in the garage.
Or are they just a death trap?

i was looking at buying one of theses lol you can get a 125. a guy gos past my house every morning on one. he looks a right cook on it lol.

I think there is a "taxi" firm uses them.
The taxi firm firm specialises in collecting those with a passion for %ages and who value their licence.
They ride to you on one, chuck it in your boot, drive you and your car to your destination, remove bike and ride off again!

Was that the bike used by Hammond and May when they did that? Very slow and no suspension was my impression.

They are available with EC-approval.
But they are small, so be carefull on the road. Maybe you should mount a orange flag like the kids have

get one with a disc brake on front!
turns tighter than any thing else.
watch out for pot holes.
remember to lean forward when moving off!

Unless you're under five feet tall i wouldn't bother. If you want two wheels something like an old GP100 Suzuki is fast enough for a
commuter handles a lot better and is pretty reliable. Better still a small trail bike. 30 mph on grass can seem awful quick.

minibikes rock.
If your after your ego to be massaged then look elsewhere. If you fancy a laugh then it will make you grin from ear to ear!!
I have tons of minibikes, bit a passion of mine. I'm in the process of making a couple of them road legal, one was finished yesterday.
Go on MONKEYRUN forum if you want some good advise.
Or you could listen to a load of blokes who have never ridden one in their lives telling you its a bad idea.

I love monkey bikes great for doing small local deliveries as for leaning forward when setting off a very good bit of advice many times found myself
on my backside on the floor when gunning it off the traffic lights when the auto clutch bites

I would have ridden one but found my knees obscured the view in a straight line and dragged on the tarmac at the mere hint of a corner. Cooler than
a Hardly Ableson however and infinitely better handling.

I am 5' 11" and rode the original Honda one easily but a lot of the pit bikes on sale now are a very poor substitute for that.

2 years ago in my garage I had my R1 Dax Rush, a ZX6R and my 125cc monkey bike and guess which one got the most use by far?
A monkey is such a laugh especially since they are great off road if you fancy peeling off onto a byway. A friend and I did over 100 mile trip off
road with a tent, BBQ and beers amazing how well even the chinese bikes hold up to such abuse. All in, I've done ~4000 miles on mine since I
bought it (originally a 72cc Lifan) and its worth its weight in gold when you consider the pound per smile. I could live without my kit car but never
the monkey.
check out www.ooracing.com if you fancy building your own up from scratch.
(Go for a manual G/B and at least 110cc engine for maximum fun - 10" wheels and an extended swing arm help the twitchy handling a lot too.)
