My understanding is it does need an SVA as it has a modified chassis/bodyshell - just look at the huge hole cut out of the back
floor!

So it looks like this one hasn't been SVAd

I totally agree, what a waste of a mk1, If I had 10K I would buy a MK1 Cooper S.
1 Last point if you had an accident in that would you end up in a lot of hot water concerning SVA etc?

Too much of a grey area in the murky world of subjective SVA tests. There are plenty of non SVA'd non A-series Minis knocking around with wildly
modified chassis', subframes and bodywork.
A quick search on google will reveal all.
I'mm planning a ZX12 Mini at the mo and will not be looking to SVA unless my insurer & mot man insist. If they are happy, who else
matters????

My understanding after speaking to z-cars a couple of weeks back is that the conversion doesn't need an SVA as the car is already registered.
Does somebody who has built a kit car, had it SVA'd and registered then get it re-SVA'd if they change the engine or modify the chassis or
body work etc.

I find it a bit mad as I remember the original space frame Minni's from the 80's and 90's and they were not able to get an MOT.
I'm sure if someone had a fatal accident the insurance company would have a fit, because they didn't understand the mods done.

Yep its very dodgy I'm afraid, and unfortunately, nice chap that he is, i don't think Chris Allanson is doing the kit car industry any
good by dodging SVA with these.
I guess actually its the builders that are dodging it not him, but his recommendation is WRONG!!
I'd be the first to attempt to dodge SVA if at all possible, and the rules are very ambiguous, such as if the mods were done a bit at a time, at
what point does the car need SVA.
All the original parts could have been replaced over many years bit by bit, even by different owners, thus nobody would know if it were in need of SVA
or not.
I hate the rules, but I'm afraid as the purveyor of kits of this type, mr Allanson needs to follow the letter of the law!
