Windows media player will rip a CD to MP3 if you change the setting in >Tools< then >Options< then >Rip Music< once you're there change the format from WMA to MP3, stick the cd in and you're away.......

Rip the cd onto windows media player. Set the rip options in media player to mp3.

This will copy the cd into the media player library and convert it to mp3 at the same time.

if you've got itunes already - you might as well just use it (its really easy to use)

just put the cd in the pc - wait for it to find the track names from the tinternet - then press the button at the bottom theat says 'import CD'

it will convert it to what ever format is setup in the preferences and save them to where its set to

to change the format and save location - go to 'preferences' in the edit menu, then 'advanced'

on the 'general' tab - 'itunes music folder location' is where it will save them

on the 'importing' tab you get to pick the format + quality (i.e. MP3)

What NOT to use is itunes it converts CDs to M4a format which then has then to be converted to mp3.

Also if you download from the itunes shop it uses apples own encrypted m4p format --- and Apple recently closed down the GPL conversion software supplier.

not if you change the option in 'preferences' so that it just converts to MP3 in the first place

itunes is fine for ripping [converting] your own CD's - but I'd agree with NOT dowloading anything from them

Windows media player as ^^^^^^^^ said is easy to use. Then again, there are hundreds of freeware ripping softwares out there. A quick google with throw up the usualy suspects.

I *think* officially its still illegal but there is a change in the law in the pipelines to say converting a CD you own to another format is okay. Not sure if it's passed yet.

Easy CD DA Extractor gets my vote. Very easy to use, adds the file data from the net and multiple settings for quality etc.

Apple are closing all the loop holes with newer Itunes version upgrade.

If you have NERO installed - I use that.

Under Audio then Convert CD's to Audio Files.

Nero is very easy and quick.

IMO Windows Media Player doesn't produce very good quality coversions.
