Dohc
Hi, i am going to have a look at a 2.0 dohc engine, and was wondering what can you do to them such as tunning wise? as well will fit in my indy?
and are they expensive?

Recommend going Zetec route.
Lower height,
less tendency to self destruct by timing chain failure,
less prone to cylinder head cracking
and above all, a lot more tuning goodies much more readily available.
Have I missed anything out?.
Beware of the Goldfish in the tulip mines. The ONLY defence against them is smoking peanut butter sandwiches.

Is it the sierra dohc or the escort/mondeo DOHC (aka phase 1 zetec and please talk about zetec then.)
A sierra dohc should be free as it's not tunable at all, so stock 130ish, with a bit of fiddling 150 max i think

I am not sure, someone i know has one siting on the floor which he does not use, alonge side with a 3.0 v6 jag lump.lol
And i all i know till i see it, it is a 2.0 efi dohc.
So is it worth getting it, if it is the right price?(Free)
i would like to do some diy rebuild on an engine, and get some extra bhp at the same time.
would i be better of in getting a pinto and zetec, and do some tunning to them?

Dropped a phase 1 1.8 zetec into mine from an Escort. Bolts straight onto the type 9 with no modifications.
With bike carbs and 2.0L cams I'm expecting 160bhp.
Cheap as chips compared to tuning a DOHC

Hi,
I have used the DOHC engine to which I have put R1 Carbs and Megajolt, I am happy with how it performs, mind you the car is for long range driving and
not track.
I will be driving to Spain in June.

If its the 8 valve sierra motor its not worth a deal if anything, I got £30 for mine from a bloke desperate to repair his granada, and I was local,
otherwise I suspect it would have joined many more DOHC's in the melting pot.
That was after being laughed at on here for suggesting I used it....
Easily Identified by the distributor on the end of the inlet cam.

In terms of Ford engines with double overhead cams there are several, but they all tend to have names (e.g. Zetec E, Zetec SE, Duratec etc) so people
often refer to the Sierra 8v engine as the DOHC as it didn't get a specific name from Ford.

Try getting 130+bhp out of a pinto for that money! (i.e free)
oh & by the way the dohc & mt75 g/box is LIGHTER than a pinto & type 9.
...with a lower c of g. & loads more torque.
If you want a track day screamer, forget it, but don't dismiss it out of hand.

If its the 16valve one 200 can be got handy enough and tough as old boots as long as the chains looked after... not a lot of stuff available but the
stock management seems to hold it back!!!
Got 1 coming for my mk1 escy next week but for the record its coming free phoned the guy looking a type 9 and got told to bring an engine crane to
take it out of his way

I went to look at the engine, it was a 2000 dohc, which is knackered, so after everybody said they are costly to rebuild i did not take the engine.
so what to look for next.
