I had a Dave brookes head on a pinto years back, was a work of art and made more power than the atmo cosworth that I replaced it with.........

Leaves me wondering "Why?" ... don't get me wrong, I like Pintos (still running one myself) but if you want 270bhp, there are a lot
of cheaper ways of getting there, and most of them don't start with a Pinto

Some classes have to use them. My engine builder reckons a guy gave him a blank cheque book to build the ultimate Pinto for a historic rally class.
Cost him around £10k apparently and he blew everything away.
But then why?
I used to be apathetic but now I just don't care.

Seen a similair set up in a Mk2 Escort quite a few years ago, when a mate was racing in a series where the basic rules were any ford engine in any
ford car. Was amazed at how much performance could be liberated from a pinto. The only cars that ever beat it were an RS 200, and an RS 500. It was a
genuine match for a normal cossie that had been race tuned. And best of it was, when the bonnet was up, it just looked like a standard pinto with twin
webbers.

It will probably do about 8mpg on full throttle as well, I knew someone who rallied one in an Escort and he got something like that.

I used to use about 1.5 gallons on a typical hill climb day which was 5 runs of about a mile each

Full race cam will mean it will do absolutely nothing until 4000rpm then wham of you go, fine for rallying but no good on the road

The local racewall stock car boys pay that for their engines (pinto) when ever they sell the car its almost always without the engine.
Its generally worth more than the chassis
the work well for race speeds and useless for low down

Approximately a third more than 100bhp at 133bhp/litre - quite different from 100bhp/litre. As I said, I very much doubt the power figures!

Its actually a tad over 112bhp/litre which is 12% over.
Your 133/per ton would take it to almost 320bhp, now that figure I would doubt myself.
250+bhp pintos are not as uncommon as you seem to think, just common people cant afford to have them.
One of the things that holds back the pinto is the head (once you have gold plated rotating bits) and if you ever saw a Dave brooks head you would
know why they make power, he don't just get in there with the die grinder, he moves the entire inlet ports its not got a £250stage 4 back street
head on it.
