What do we think of this?

Bargain, or walk away?

Yvonne wants a new car. She does 1 1/2 miles into work and 1 1/2 miles back again every day, making a total of 3 miles a day. Last year she managed a total mileage between MOT certs of 1,200!

She wants a Cobra, but I can't stretch to a full blown V8 with all the chrome / halibrands etc (I did mention she has VERY expensive tastes)

Anyway, I spotted this TVR less than 10 miles from me, for the sort of budget I have available.

What do we think? Bargain or walk away?

As long as you are confident that you can get all the parts and haggle a bit on that price it will make a nice car I am sure.

Gas conversion may be wise or swap for a 1.4 tdi lump!

Don't know if it's a bargain or not but the repair doesn't look too difficult - better than a cobra IMHO

Cheers

The speed 6 engine in those are not good 5k for a rebuild, do as search on PH for more info on this, i have had Two TVR's, personally i wouldn't touch a speed 6 engined version.

Must try harder

I would be asking myself if he's a dealer (and it looks like he is) then why hasn't he done it?

Are the spare panels in the same colour? And if so, does the colour match? 'Cos it could all need a respray which will be £1k+.

Given TVR reliability 1.5 miles is not too far to have to walk when it breaks down.

If it's that cheap to repair it begs the question why didn't either the insurance company or the salvor repair it?
Also at three miles a day she will never have it out of first!
But if you do buy it I want to see it when we're up beg. July.
Cheers, Pewe

And that distance will not warm anything up properly, which will probably knacker lots of things to......

What you are really asking is, would it make a good donor?

Answer, the other bits, great, engine, bit dodgy. Good when they are running though.

Not trying to be funny - but a major manufacturer's car would make more sense... it would be a lot happier with such short journeys.

How about a MX-5? Nice looking (albeit a bit hairdresser) and very pleasant to drive - a load of fun driving in a absolutely reliable package. Get one with power steering though, as the early models without can be a killer at parking speeds (but fine at driving speeds).

She wants a nice little Citroen C2 diesel, 55mpg and £35 road tax I wouldn't touch that with a barge pole and I've done a few write offs for my own use.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

If she's only going to be doing a few miles a day, I would stay well clear of a Tiv,
They take ages to warm up, and are very delicate until they're warm - worst than most cars!
As mentioned, the S6 engine is pretty weak due to it being so highly strung.
The worst case scenario is 10k between rebuilds, and by doing lots of short journeys I wouldn't think you would get many more miles between rebuilds.
Saying that, I am a huge TVR fan, and would recommend them to anyone, but not for daily commuting and short journeys.

i also consider them to be hedge magnets .

not being rude - but can she drive ?

dont think any engine/ cat converter will be any good only doing 1.5 miles to work .

average walking speed 4 miles per hour, average cycling speed 20 miles per hour. Buy a new alarm clock for the other half and treat yourself with the spare dosh. as with everything it the though that counts and youve thought about the new car

Ive got a nice smart car For two convertible in stock. Possible bec conversion !!! £35 Road tax , Semi Auto , 65mpg I use it to go ..... 1.5 miles to work and back www.resourcevehiclesltd.co.uk

Special deal for locosters !!

As a motor traders opinion. It doesnt sound cheap enough for a car that is on "the register" i.e cat c/d . Repairs always look simple until you try to do it. I have a pal that owns a salvage yard and he buys direct from the insurance companies and blue cycle etc. Not even he would attempt this one.

However... If its what you want then there is only one way to find out.

Regards
