Type 2 to Type E Conversion

I am desperatley near the point in my rebuild that I am not going to be able to do anything else until I get the engine and gearbox in my car.

Unfortunatly my gearbox requires synchros (type 2 4 speed) and they are like hens teeth to get. My gearbox dude can only get a complete gearset with synchros and it is mega money!!!

I am looking at getting a type E box as at least I can get the parts for these if it requires any work. I know the input shaft is a different size, meaning I will have to get a matching clutch plate.

Is the output shaft the same as my type 2 and is the box the same length/width as the type 2?

Also has anybody got a decent one they want to sell!

Thanks

Shaun

Hi

Looks like a type 2 to me

Thanks to desyboy for info.

Looks like it may be easier to go for a type 9 5 speed as the same mods will have to be made to the prop / clutch.

Hi.

Don't forget that not only will the prop and drive plate need changing. But the gearbox mounting on the chassis will need moving backwards also.

Cheers Matt
