Couldnt say Ive noticed though!
how do they know how many miles we've all driven, thus how can they say we've driven 3.1 billion less miles?

hahah, well I'm gonna throw a spanner in the works and cause the database to crash thus bringing the country to its knees when I get my Landy
MOT'ed.
I have changed speedo from LWD to RR to account for the RR Diffs; current reading is about 75 K; but will be 11 K!! hence a negative mileage!

hmmm, interesting point - but only if I sell and claim that it has done 11 k miles surely?
previous speedo had 30 K miles anyway, who knows if that is genuine on a 34 year old car. I have MOTs to show previous mileages anyway.
clocking is legal unless you sell the car as only having done clocked mileage.
There are businesses out there that will change the mileage for you.
I never really take mileage into account when buying a car......... Usually because its really high!
seasonally adjusted petrol sales / tax receipts would probably be a fair indicator too, although would need some careful interpretation as a 5% drop in traffic might free up enough congestion to increase everyones fuel efficiency by the same amount again.
