waterproof sat nav? any good?

I've got my standard tomtom fairly wet and its been ok so unless its going to get soaked as mads suggested it might be best to try and modify a normal one?

some sort of plastic tuppaware arrangement? means you can't use the touch screen easily on the move, but then you're not supposed to anyway officer

i use a standard tom tom on my bike just with the sucker on bikes screen

even in rain never a problem and so long as your moving it doesnt even get damp

theyre a gimmic or to tom tom a value added product, which just means they can charge huge amounts more for just a few quid exra production cost

I put my TomTom in a placcy bag.
It's all on't handlebars - no fairing for me.

No probs so far

thats what i thought.. Iv got a basic garmin at present which is ok but doesnt do route planning.. I might get a newer one and use a freezer bag over it.. The type with the little seal clip on top.. Should be ok.. My nokia N95 is pretty good for a free sat nav but its a lot to risk losing my fone if it gets wet while away.. The N95 you just pay for the voice guidance so you only activate it when you need it.. Bout a fiver a day.. Not bad if you only need it a couple of times. The software is free and complete maps for all the world can be got from
ovi.com
They do lots of different mobile platforms the nokia uses symbian.. The software for free even backs up your favourite points so you never lose them..

I can recommend the Garmin Nuvi 550.

waterproof and you can easily plan a nice route on your pc with the enclosed mapsource software.

wow yea - but its like £300!! ouch - they do look good but very expensive.. need a cheaper option if poss.. the waterproof bag is seeming appealing )
