best airfield for track day
smart51 - 5/1/10 at 08:08 AM

I'm planning to do another track day in the Cappuccino this year and I'm looking for recommendations of a good cheap circuit near Birmingham. The candidates are Abingdon, Keevil, Colerne and Hullavington.

What I want from a track day is an interesting mix of corners but not too many long straights. The car handles well but doesn't have a lot of power. Mallory Park, Silverstone, Rockingham, Bedford and Bruntingthorpe would see me on the limiter for half the lap and where's the fun in that?

Would still opt for Mallory, theres only a couple of straights but mix that with the fun corners and it's the one IMHO.

Abingdon is the best airfield

Another vote for Abingdon. Had a play in a fury-fireblade there and enjoyed it. Not done bedford but I hear it's verging on a proper circuit, just with less to hit!

colerne is the only airfield i've done a few years ago in an integra.
i enjoyed it, corners where ok and if i remember correctly the straights weren't to long.

I raced on these three (on bikes) when they were temporary circuits. From my memory Keevil is very fast and probably not good for your car. Hullavington was not the most interesting circuit. Of these three I'd say that Colerne is probably the best suited.

All IMO and subject to the track layouts not having changed since 80-85... God I'm getting old

Thanks for the replies. At Mallory, one of my favourite circuits, I'd hit the limiter on the start finish straight and stay there for the next half mile before braking for the esses. Shame really.

So Colerne or Abingdon then. That's kind of what I was thinking. Anyone else been to these tracks? What are they like?
