£5 a bargain
02GF74 - 9/2/10 at 09:34 PM

not!

I only ever used it once, by mistake, I was fuming, ready to set fire to something, I was.

Ben_Copeland - 9/2/10 at 09:48 PM

What pisses me off is if you only use it from one junction to the next, you still have to pay the full amount for the use of a tiny part of the whole road....

Stott - 9/2/10 at 09:53 PM

if you cock up and go onto it then I think they allow you to exit at the first available junction and turn around, according to my father anyway

Dangle_kt - 9/2/10 at 10:11 PM

I use it when commuting to be honest.

Goes on expenses.

smart51 - 9/2/10 at 10:14 PM

The more it costs, the fewer people will use it, the fewer companies will want to build and operate toll roads, the fewer toll roads will be built.

Sorry, but if it's a choice between sitting for an hour and a half or so to get from Junction 10 to Junction 4 or spend £5 to do it in 15 minutes I know which one I choose!! Plus the M6 Toll has the nicest services for miles around

+1, work pay for it when we use it and it saves hours, the cost of the toll is less that our time sat in traffic so no brainer, price up means less people use it means even less traffic and cleaner services

the only bad point for me: it doesnt start a the m42 and doesnt go as far as juction 18!

I wouldnt mind using it only have seen an unmarked black beemer pulling people the moment the m6 finishes for speeding. Other then that 5 quid is well worth it just for the look on the atendants face when u sit in the bay with anti lag turned on whilst waiting for your change, he he.

Oh and south bound toll both has a bridge test 3/4 mile challenge

cant beat a bit of toll booth grand prix

there are also unmarked volvos on the toll, some twit came flying past, then cut us up, just as i was thinking where is an unmarked police car when you need one.....a volvo estate came screaming past from nowhere, pullin in behind the car that just cut of up so we start to wander if there racing then the blues come on, result!

stevebubs - 10/2/10 at 01:16 AM

Coming from the South, I never use it.

Always go the other way round Birmingham on the M5 - and pick what time of day I travel.

Really don't like the controlled section of the M42 between the M40 and the M6 - to the point where I refuse to use it....

speedyxjs - 10/2/10 at 07:15 AM

I understand it is annoying for those who use it for just one or two junctions but i use it when i travel to scotland (used to be a couple of time per year) and i think it is well worth paying £5 for. Its a much nice route than the A/M1 as there is hardly any traffic.

BenB - 10/2/10 at 08:21 AM

I used it once but ever since just take the usual route. Chug along in the old diesel, even with a bit of traffic it's not worth the £.

mcerd1 - 10/2/10 at 08:55 AM

I use it about once a year each way (to stoneleigh and back )

the M74/M6 is the fastest way from Edinburgh and I've found a couple of good routes off the M6T and a little less traffic + some nice services are welcome after ~5.5 hours in the car
(btw- I use the A701 [the Moffat rd.] to get too the M74 - its much more fun )

"We are looking to improve our lanes, we're looking to improve our IT."

How do you 'improve' a lane?

And it's new computers all round for admin!!

I pay tolls in France, and I don't mind, this is another UK rip off.

i did think that, cant really see how they are going to spend it on those things, they should extend it if they are putting the price up!

I may be wrong, but they dont pay road tax in France do they? Thus Toll roads are reasonable in lieu of Road Tax.

ie
No Road Tax, but have Tolls for major routes
or
Have Road Tax, and fund the damn roads with it rather than just give it to the Treasury to be used for other Non Transport purposes.

Just my 2d's worth.

coozer - 10/2/10 at 01:09 PM

It reminds me of a tool road in Portugal... I've used the M6 one a few times when at work and find it very quiet, hardly anyone uses it.

Now then, coming back from Opel plant ot the airport in a taxi... vroooom straight through the outside gate treating it like a chicane at 140kpm!!

I had to close my eyes and thought I was going to die! However it left me smiling all the way back to the airport and what amazed me more was the 695,000 km on the speedo! (Mercedes 190)

They could make it a bit longer, i.e. all the way up to Wigan. I'd happily pay £20 every time I have to go south to sit on a pretty much empty motorway all the way down.

First time I used it was in the middle of the night, NO traffic and halfway down there I looked down and found I was doing 120!
