Hi guys, i am planning a one day drive out to the peack districk, we will be coming from London, and by my thinking we should be entering the district
at bakewell at 11 ish after meeting up with various people on route.
can anyone recomend places for a stop around bakewell to grab a drink etc, we do plan on doing the cat and fiddle route at some point in the day. also
although we are all going driving whilst we are there we would like to enjoy the place and not purely drive all day, so any recomendations on where to
go are grately aprecited
ant.

What sort of date are you looking at?
I would be looking to meet you at east midlands services if you are going up the M1
Hi, as above when ?
Would maybe meet up and take you around a few of the lesser known routes, less traffic less eye in the sky..........
Ah brilliant guys that sounds great, just a heads up its with my dad in an 96 alfa spider and a friend in a mk 2 mx5, just want to do a nice driving
day out really. i havent confirmed a date yet, but i am thinking the 20th of june and 27th as a reserve date if the weather is awfull.
route wise i am meeting up just south of cambridge, then as much of a scenic drive can be whilst making good progress up to notingham, crossing over
the m1 there, i think thats j26? then into the peak district.

As well as the Cat' I'd recommend Snake Pass (A57) from Glossop to Ladybower res' (Dam Busters training area) and Long Hill (A5004)
from Whalley Bridge to Buxton although like the Cat' they have 50mph limits on them. I like The IsleofSkye (A535) road from Greenfield to
Holmfirth (Last of the Summer Wine) The Cat' has average speed cameras, aimed at the rear No plate so be carefull. Winnets Pass at Castleton is
pretty spectacular scenery.
There's plenty of good cafes around the peaks so let me know roughly where you might want to have lunch and I'll recommend one. The up side
of cycling a lot is you know all the cafes.
Unfortunatly I'll be in the alps those dates otherwise I'd have joined you.

adrian can you recmend a cafe somewhere around nether haddon just to stop for a coffee/tea/whisky after two hour drive, somewhere with a car park
would be ideal.

Was up there last weekend for the first time - stunning scenery and cracking roads. Try to include a drive through Hope and over the pass at Castleton
A625.
Watch out for Average Speed cameras ^^ also on the B6061 heading towards Sparrowpit, marked (and unmarked?) cop cars and worst of all Sunday bl**dy
drivers snailing along at 15-20mph below the speed limit.
Otherwise enjoy.
Cheers, Pewe
would it be better to go on a saturday?
Well, if you're driving along the A6, through Matlock Bath.
You're welcome to stop off at my Chip Shop, there's seating(30 inside, 12 outside), and i can give you a discount on your drinks and
food
That's my shop at the edge of the picture
Here's a link to some pictures i post on PPC's forum of what i see down here...
Matlock-Bath Cars linky dinky doo
ah brilliant i will try and fit a stop in on our route!
can anyone recomend a place for a pub lunch around castleton, being a bit of a geek it would be good if we could sit outside near the cars.
Loads of pubs around there that fit the bill, just take your pick. Cafe's at The Lido in Hathersage (nice totty), WoodbineCafe in Hope (cyclists and climbers haunt) , Edale rail station cafe (great coffee and worth the drive through the valley). Castleton itself is a bit touristy/busy but lots of cafes.
Saturday prob. best.
We had lunch at the Lady Bower Inn on the Sheffield side of the reservoir (Jct of A57 and 6013). Good grub at reasonable price and sit outside with
car-park on opposite side of the road so you can a) see the cars and b) watch the traffic go by.
Cheers, Pewe
Just spotted my yellow TVR Chimaera here

I would have agree, Saturday would be the best day, unless you want to spend a few hours driving round in first gear!!
Sundays are chaos, the traffic is chaos, and the cat and fiddle(and the other great driving roads) are full of Sunday drivers and bikers on th wrong
side of the road.
Saturday would be the better option if you want to have an enjoyable drive.
