I've killed it and summer fun is over :(
Werner Van Loock - 27/6/10 at 12:40 PM

I knew it was a weak point that morris minor rear axle (with a 4age in front of it), but today it gave i think. Was doing 80 and suddenly a whining noise that got stronger and stronger and only went away when i got off the throttle. It's even whining at 30 now and so loud that i can't hear the engine/exhaust anymore.
Luckily i got home

So i guess summer fun is over, got a english axle lying around but it needs brackets and a rebuild so that's not going to be under there in a few weeks

At least swimbo told me to fix it rather to sell it

Could you not find another to drop in for now?

WTH Do you have to ask to do stuff ?......

Get a spine boy...shes yer wife not your mother..

An axle that old is bound to give up at almost three to four times its design limit.

Only if you want it to be. Get it sorted out - you're a Locostbuilder, man!

Sure that some knowledgeable types will be along shortly with more suggestions.

[Edit: The power of LCB! There you go:]

Capri axle under a Striker? Must be a baby atlas then, bit out of budget i guess.

And break it again? 4age is just too strong for the morris axle.

Could help, but for how long? This one only lasted 800 miles

speedyxjs - 27/6/10 at 05:46 PM

800 miles should get you through the summer. Then upgrade over the winter when the car isnt used?

Werner Van Loock - 27/6/10 at 06:03 PM

lol, you expect a short summer then

Well, i was planning to replace it anyway, so now it's a bit earlier then expected. At least i can sort the car out completely then. So in a few weeks it'll see a full cage fitted, throttle bodies, english rear axle, electronic speedo pickup and brakes sorted (not too impressed with them atm)

but thanks for the encouragement

My volvo powered Sprite would eat two or three diffs a year, easy to change, but probably harder to find at a breakers than in the 60's.
