Anyone else had a last blat today before off road?
craig1410 - 30/9/10 at 09:44 PM

Well it's that time of year again and my road tax runs out tonight. I kept the car on the road over the awful winter last year and hardly turned a wheel so this year I'm putting the car off the road until probably March 2011.

Took the car for a run for over an hour with my 11 year old son and it was really nice. Literally drove into the sunset (and back). My new reinforced cycle wings are the dogs danglies with hardly any bounce now. My brackets are 5mm thick 25mm flat bar instead of the 3mm stuff that broke last time out.

Anyone else parking their car up for the winter? Remember to do your SORN if you are!

Looking forward to the Spring already!

No... just got another 12 month tax disc starting tomorrow. I use my car throughout the winter - if it's cold, I wear more clothes!

clairetoo - 30/9/10 at 09:49 PM

Last Saturday I gave my Fury a damn good wash , then took it for quick blast (to dry it out , honest )..............and sideways in second gear at 60 mph convinced me the roads are getting a bit cold for proper fun !
So it's now put to bed for the winter - and maybe a few upgrades

What, like some decent tyres at last...

I welded the final bits on my de-dion, added a cockpit brace between the outside of the cockpit and the transmission tunnel. Did the washing, sorted dinner, walked the dog ..... and realised i'm getting closer to the point the car becomes a go-kart (ie will go backwards, forwards, steer and stop!)

I dream of the day i'll be able to drive on the road

Nah............maybe drop the performance a bit......perhaps a bike engine would cure my surplus power problem

RazMan - 30/9/10 at 10:11 PM

I intended to go for a last blat to work this morning but when I turned the key the battery was flat! (some idiot must have left the lights on)

Its now officially on SORN until a few cunning plans materialise.

lewis - 30/9/10 at 10:15 PM

Just about to tax and insure mine!! Prob cash the tax in nov though

Dusty - 30/9/10 at 10:15 PM

Put the new tax disc on today. Replaced the thermostat. Last time I drove it couldn't get the engine temp above 60C! (I do have a hood and heater so relatively comfortable in winter.)

paublo999 - 30/9/10 at 10:18 PM

Last competition weekend of the year up in Boyndie near Banff on the 2nd and 3rd. Weather forecast doesnt look great though

Upgrades after that

irvined - 30/9/10 at 10:21 PM

We took the seven for its last 'big' drive before the winter a couple of weeks ago, we went from holland to inverness via ullapool and derby and back in a weekend. My ears are still bleeding but it was worth every second.

I'll still use the car over the winter, but tend not to go so far form home.

Hellfire - 30/9/10 at 10:33 PM

SORN in the post for my bike. Off the road for winter from tomorrow.

Couldn't resist a blast round tonight though - injection of adrenalin just to last me through the cold nights...

Took mine into work again today. I keep it taxed and on the road all year round. It may have to come into the workshop for a few mods but nothing too major this year. Plus, we often get a run of nice bright days during October/November.

The only time I really don't like driving it is when it's icy as it's pretty uncontrollable and the heater is not as good as the climate control in my tin top!

Bluemoon - 1/10/10 at 07:00 AM

Keep min taxed all year, not that much extra cash really, price of petrol more important.. Also it's our second car, and "required" from time to time..

BenB - 1/10/10 at 07:24 AM

I keep mine taxed all year too. Nothing nicer on a nice crisp winters day than going for a blast in the crisp sunshine then come home to sit near the fire with a cuppa and some toast and have a nice kip Only just got the open fire this year but the rest is a well rehearsed procedure

How are you all going to get out when the snow comes down if the car is on SORN? Man up!

welderman - 1/10/10 at 07:39 AM

Keep mine on the road all year round, cold, whats that, the buzz gets you hot and bothered, a bit of sideways action keeps you on your toes .

Tommy P - 1/10/10 at 08:40 AM

As you know, I'm with you Joe - as I was last year. Only this time I may be a bit warmer in the Fury than I was in the Cateringvan.

PS My tax runs out this month, a bit like your tyres have.

welderman - 1/10/10 at 08:41 AM

lol

Tommy P - 1/10/10 at 09:32 AM

I think FFTS wold be up for all year round driving too, he likes his fix and goes out (has been caught) in the snow, thats when he's not playing Modern Warfare 2, or rather being killed on it.

mangogrooveworkshop - 1/10/10 at 11:54 AM

im still rolling for the next four weeks so i intend to make a good blat of it..
When I took mine to work for a meeting all the jelous folk complained to the boss and i got pulled for it. The old you are not insured line was used.......
Considering i work on electrical supplys in all weathers....driving to work in my own car was the least risky thing i did all week.
I had taken half the day as leave and was taking it to get the body work sorted after this meeting or in this case 3 hours of playskool vs the boss.
Still had a good time crusin out the carpark watching the long faces and
their noses bleeding.
Miserable teabags with no fun in thier lives......

Thought about it a lot, but in the end have rooted to keep it on the road.

Paid for a years insurence at the start of the month and will renew my tax tomorrow.

Might get a 6month tax to shift the renewal to a less depressing April

Mines staying road legal. Might not get used much but I have always managed the odd day.

hobbsy - 2/10/10 at 12:22 PM

It doesn't have to be winter to be snowy - this was in June

So yeah MAN UP!

Tommy P - 2/10/10 at 02:47 PM

Just been out in mine and I'm off again in 30 mins

Still can't believe how much grip I got going up there with 888's. Quaife diff helped. I went to Oulton park to watch the 750MC meeting Yesterday and the roads were a bit green. Doesn't bother me after that day on the Grimsell.

I may not have a windscreen, wet weather gear or a heater but I have a rainsuit and contrary to popular belief I'm not made of chocolate so won't melt.

Grow a pair and get out there Crisp winter mornings are something very special.

must admit i don't 'get' the SORN thing, too many cracking days through late autumn + winter. Decent weather gear is the way forward :-)
