Top Gear Test Track-day
Ninehigh - 29/9/11 at 09:47 PM

I've been thinking for a while now why the bods at Top Gear aren't running (or allowing to be run, for a cut ) track days. I'm quite sure loads of people would be queueing up for a go at the "Joe Public in a Reasonably Priced Car" challenge (Britain's got Racing Talent anyone?) and it would be a corking track for 2-4 people to race on (how cool of a stag day would that be?)

Heck if not the actual track itself I'm sure Clarkson and co would be able to afford another airfield to put out a (nearly?) identical track so Dan Dangerous doesn't ruin it.

Anyone know of an airfield for a group buy?

The probable reason is it's a figure of 8 track, so you could only have one car on it at a time.

Isn't if a figure of 8?
To my mind that would introduce a new interesting hazard to the average trackday!

you can definatley go on it

The lotus and VX220 boys used to have a leader board to see who could beat the stigs times, its someones track and they run tuition days if I remember correctly - might it be plans motorsport?

edit:

looks like it is plans - they are based in dunsfold so im presuming its them

Well bugger me sideways!

I take it Dunsfold Park is what I'd find on the map?

Also because it's a figure 8 is why I suggested 2-4, less chance of someone lagging far enough behind

Plus, TG can not allow Car's built in sheds beating the likes of Ferrari's lap times

If they did then they would stop giving TG their cars unfortunately :-/

I never thought of it that way before. I guess your right. If Ferrari's and other supercars lap times were smashed by shed built cars then Ferrari etc would refuse to send it's latest models to TG. This means it would be TG without cars and just three baffoons baffooning around.

Whoever designed that route missed the opportunity for the best track-day marketing tool ever.

MSV do a very similar thing at Bedford. HOW FAST? At £99 I think it's pretty good.

na that track is too flat - you just need to get rid of the planes, then you can build a bridge in the middle

Good point raising that stretch from Wilson to Chicago by about 7 foot would solve the problem

owelly - 6/10/11 at 04:45 PM

And give an excellent take-off for those 'getting air' shots. Or they could dig down 7feet for that 'splashdown' shot?

Ninehigh - 6/10/11 at 04:50 PM

Well I was thinking 7 foot wouldn't look that high if you approached it at 100mph

Ignorant Andy - 6/10/11 at 08:18 PM

Top gear lap record? Probably on slicks, but then so was the FXX was it not?
