MCC Exeter Trial

Cars take a long time in the building and for some, the build is everything and for others perhaps the build and use of the car are enjoyed in equal proportions. I definitely fall into the latter category.

The Trials car was built to compete in Classic Trials for fully road legal cars. Having done a season in Class 0 we decided now was the time to move up to Class 8 which is considerably more challenging than Class 0 but certainly something we could get our teeth into. So, we have just returned from taking part in the MCC Exeter Trial; a superb event that has used the same format and many of the same hills going back over 80 years. It is fantastic to take part in an event organised by Britain's oldest motor club.

The evil restarts are reserved for Class 7 kit cars and Class 8 trials specials.

I hope this might be of some interest.

Hello Myke

We could perhaps work it in with a trip up to Scotland. Living in Devon these jaunts need a bit of planning.

The car has a Peugeot 205 GTI engine running twin 40DCOEs in the back and the body is hand formed aluminium. Front wishbones are "Book", uprights Cortina and the steering rack is 205 left hand drive upside down. The complete engine gearbox, subframe and suspension was taken from a donor 205 and put in the back. Rear brakes are Citroen BX fronts which incorporate the handbrake and as luck would have are a direct fit to the Peugeot uprights. It all seems to work well and is amazingly comfortable and well mannered on the road. Using a 306 turbo diesel gearbox coupled with 175 80 14s give 30mph/1000 revs in 5th which the 1.9 engine pulls easily.

regards

John

Ah, now thats interesting. I was looking out for some kind of engine, gearbox, subframe unit that could be used as one. Had a silly idea about putting something like that in the back of an AX, Cinquecento, Kia Pride, Polo etc for trialling as I like a roof over my head. Being over 60 and knackered now doesnt help matters either.

BTW, the regs are here http://www.fellsideac.co.uk/index.html
