Very much enjoyed the day, despite getting spanked by mate in MNR vortex (R1 engine)
And enjoy the road driving
Do I need a better car, or better gear shifts - no idea how well I timed those!
Or should I just enjoy the striker on the road
Not really questions I expect proper answers as there are too many variables, just thought I'd share
(Running sylva striker mk2 fiat 1.6 twin cam engine built in 1991 so getting on a bit! - it was built before I was old enough to drive!)
D
It's all about having fun!
Out of interest, and in comparison, what times did your mate manage in the R1 mnr?
Don't have all his times, but:
Reaction: 1.09
0-60: 5.39
1/8mile 9.09
1/4 mile: 13.99
Max speed 1/4 mile: 98.2
90% of the dragtime is made or lost in the take off, 60ft times are a good indicator. I havent been for yrs but did a 14.0 something in my redtopped
nova.

yeah , you should be looking for a better 64ft time , i did a 2.2 in my volvo 740...
there is an online calculator that should give your theoretical ET .
I did have a bit of wheel spin, and in hind sight, basically forgot to shift up into 2nd gear, was looking at rev counter later in the run to think
about changes, but at the start it was watch the lights and go and only thought about gears somewhat later down the track
The MNR has the advantage of not needing a clutch to shift!
An R1 engined kit car should be low to mid 13's, maybe even high 12's. A lot depends on tyres and gearing.
My Evo 8 was doing a 1.7sec 60foot on a rubbish surface with road tyres so 4WD helps Think my best 1/8th time was 8.2sec, no 1/4 times as is only
an 1/8th here
Those reaction times need some work! Try reacting on the last light before the green as it takes a while for the signal to get from your brain to
your feet.
Mid 16's are from memory what something like say a Saxo VTS would run which is also a 1.6 but a good chunk heavier. I have no idea how much bhp
a Fiat 1.6 twink has?

Yeah I meant to say that but still! Over a second is pretty shocking!
If you're racing against someone instead of / as well as the clock then it definitely helps then!
what was the interval between the light changes as i got lumberd with the pro tree

Does that 0-60 time for the R1 include the 1.09 second reaction time?
Should be quicker than that though, right?
Short answer. Yes. Although there is a technique to launching these cars, BEC or CEC.
I ran low 13's in my old heavier but Blackbird engined Fury with rubbish tyres and about a 107mph terminal speed.
I'd expect high 12's and maybe 110 mph terminal in the current Fury which gives an approx 10 sec 100mph time as you've probably got
another gear change as 3rd gives around 100mph in mine depending on tyres / gearing
TBH with BECs they don't necessarily crush all comers on the 1/4 mile. However being 450kg or less really helps with handling and braking on a
circuit or even on the road if you're brave. With a sequential box that's where they really come into their own.

No!
I'd expect quite a lot better out of both cars, but being your first time its all a learning curve.
Most tweaked RS turbo's run mid-14's easily with 95-100mph terminals. My own best in my XR2 turbo (in full trim and road tyres) is a not
brilliant 14.7 @ 98mph. There's plenty of mk2 fiesta's running 13's now and some of those are NA zetecs without massive specs (but
fully stripped and track rubber).
here is my old scoob

alot of the time can be made up at the start, so get good launch, grip and gear changes will help alot at the end 1/4
