Single Seaters and Track Days
TimC - 3/9/05 at 04:59 PM

Found out today that you cant do track days in a single seater (even with cycle wings.) Apparently it's due to a clause in the public liability insurance and is an industry wide issue.

What a gutter - kind of ruins plans for new project.

Anyone heard of this before>

Cheers

I belive the disalowing of single seaters at track days was mentioned in the discovery channel series a racecar is born, that I watched not long ago.

well what about building a locost that is say 6 inches narrower with a very small second seat ?

theconrodkid - 4/9/05 at 05:58 AM

a baby seat is still a seat

Maybe that's why Tiger aren't selling more ERA's?

Quite a few people produce non road, track day only single seaters, are you sure about this?

yep, i've heard this. It is all to do with the public liability insurance. If you include single seaters then ....... i could drive my ex F1 car around the track at the same time as some one else is driving there 1600cc locost .........

its a recipe for disaster.

If you get your ards license you can often go to track "test" days.

Would this be legal?..

Its near as damn it a single seater but it was built as a 'sports car' so has an offset driver and tiny space for the passenger.

If its not, thats one project idea out of the window!

i'd slap a second seat in that way there is no question about it.

If its road legal and has 2 seats its easy to prove, for track cars i think its more debateable therefore the harder it is to question the better.

Pistonheads have been discussing this. The general consensus was that your rich boys didn't like getting a stuffing in thier Lambo's by a nutter is a single seater worth a tenth of the money!

There was some sensible stuff about closing speeds etc.

single seater track day stuff

greggors84 - 14/9/05 at 06:12 PM

I'm sure alot of the rich boys still get stuffed by BECs that are about a tenth of the price.

I know alot of trackdays have restrictions on single seaters, but you may be able to find someone who runs a day for similar cars.

Ive seen single seaters run at Donnington on track days, the ones organised by the circuit itself, think there called "trackzone"

checkout the donnington website.

There cheaper too........
