i'm really desperate to get my indy on track but i can see it failing noise limits big style. most tracks seems to have a 97db static limit and
my indy was making 96db when the can was only a few weeks old at time of sva test and i know it's got a damn site louder sinse.
it's got a mk supplied exhaust system fitted.
can i get a bigger can to go on it? will repacking the can that is on it now do the job?
i don't mind spending a few quid as long as it's going to work! i just dread the thought of paying 150 quid for a track day only to get
kicked off on the 2nd lap for being too noisey.
Hmm people have been using a 'decibel killer' for these kinds of things.

sod the noise, just pick a trackday with a suitable noise limit! Loads are 105dB, in fact, i only tend to do these ones. 
My favourites are also
'open pitlane' style.
Don't bother with a Db killer I tried one in my westfield and it was so restrictive the engine would barely run. So they work in a round about way because once the engines splutted and cut out its pretty much silent.
Ive seen pics of a Lotus Elise Exige (think it was in CCC) that had a butterfly in its exhaust so he could "adjust" the noise level for the
meter.
Do you not also get extra clamp on silencer extensions? Or is this what your on about?
You should be o.k. with 97 db.
I had mine tested at tesside sprint when the noise level is 105db, and mine was reading 108db.
The guy said its a bit noisy, carry on!!!
dont worry take it to a track day, they usually only test the cars that sound loud anyway. If you are a bit over they will normally ask you to sort it
out the next time you go.
Not sure about donington though they are a bit stricter there
elvington for instance has had complaints about the noise, hence they test more and are more insistant. Other tracks, if they havent had any complaints, they probably dont care!
i'm looking at bruntingthorpe, only 100 quid for the day but they have a 87.5dB drive by noise limit. i presume they measure from a greater
distance as the limit is much lower than most i have seen before?
anyone done bruntingthorpe?
any views on it?
Why not just buy a standard R1, GSXR1000, CBR900 etc can on Ebay for £20 and modify it so you can substitute for your one if and when required.
As stated earlier, DB killers also kill the engines performance, a decent bike can will pull it down a little but be very quiet.

Bruntingthorpe is an old aerodrome. Anyone can turn up and drive. We take the formula student car there, usually some rather nice cars there as
well!!
Dont think there are any noise restrictions there! Its in the middle of nowhere. And the TVR race cars that were whizzing about when I was last there
were definately well over 100dB.

When are you going Jon ? I may join you. I did Bruntingthorpe last September. Great circuit, loads of run off everywhere, huge long straight good for
well over 100Mph+ if your car can do it. Just a bit hard on tyres (old airfield surface). Bit loose in places too.
As for noise, my silencer was virtually empty that day so I must have been putting out over 100dB, nobody said anything to me about it.

They reduce noise by about 4DB can be fitted quickly at the track day if necessary.
