Peteff - 8/12/06 at 07:12 PM

I remembered he threw a rod in it as well, I like the way he makes light of it in the clip.

stevec - 8/12/06 at 07:28 PM

Saw it on UK gold the other day, Awsome performance. But Tiffny Dell is one of many including Ant a Dec and Cilla Black that should be sent to sea in a boat. Oh and Esta Rantzen.

Hellfire - 8/12/06 at 07:33 PM

Very good video and what a gorgeous sound The engine popping didn't sound too good though...

Do you see the full 5 mins? Mine stops at about 40%.

Tangerine Scream - 8/12/06 at 08:04 PM

This is from the yahoo BEC list at the time....

Tiff needell blows up Z100

Yesterday at Bruntingthorpe 5th Gear were doing some 0-60 filming with Tiff
Needell trying to drive the Z100wr. He really couldn't get the hang of it -
the concept of two engines seemed to confuse him!

He was fluffing most of the gear changes so Chris jumped in the car and did
a 2.7x second 0-60 run which seemed to annoy Mr Needell a little. So while
Chris tried to find his glasses which blew off somewhere up the runway (but
had actually just fallen onto the passenger seat) he tried to do another
quick run.

On this run I think he didn't change up the gear on one engine and the other
engine pulled it past the rev limit and over revved it... the result was a
big cloud of smoke as a con-rod made a break for freedom out the side of the
block.

He didn't even say sorry.

GavBurns - 8/12/06 at 08:48 PM

He was supposed to be starting the car for the timed sprint, if you watch it the red cut-off switch was already on and he turns it off, The pudding.

Confused but excited. - 8/12/06 at 09:58 PM

Have you got your monitor brightness turned up too high? It must be melting the film.

Ah that explains the singed eyebrows then.....

It's odd, the youtube stuff all works fine but not the google clips. I suppose I'm not missing any life-changing material, was just interested to know if anyone else had the problem.

Geoff.

Bloke at work (who's also building a locost almost as slowly as me and reads here) has a son who works for Motec. If i remember correctly his lad was there for the day helping out.

Some people's jobs sound so much more interesting than mine.

greggors84 - 21/12/06 at 12:33 AM

Ive heard Tiff is a bit of a moaner. A couple of guys I know did the Britcar 24hr at silverstone a couple of years ago. 5th Gear were running a honda there. A the prize giving ceremony apparently Tiff was throwing his toys out the pram because there were no individual trophies only team ones.

I never saw the point of individual shifters. Surely you would never be able to use them as changing the speed of the rear wheels would just push the front wheels and engine faster, and vice versa!

I noticed the kill switch cock up too!

Oh yeah, Gav your avatar is MASSIVE!

The main problem with separate shifters is demonstrated nicely in the vid. Miss one of the engines and it goes pop! If you only flick one lever at 11,000 and keep pulling the other engine is now doing 14,000+ (?) and does what all good grenades do!

Yep.

A friend of mine owns it up here on the Wirral. Where did you get the couple
of months info from ? He bought it a couple of years back.
It's now black and ROAD LEGAL although currently sorned for winter whilst
he's fitting electric water pumps.

Did a couple of track days this year at Ty Croes in it.
