Recent trip into hedge - not my fault!!!
mad dad - 18/12/06 at 11:32 AM

I went out for a drive on Sunday (10/12/06) and after about 40 miles got a mle from home and car suddenly dived into a hedge.......anyway got it dragged out and managed to drive it home but the next day there was another accident in same spot only worse...spoke to the police and reported it to the highway dept who have since contacted me and said there is a problem with the road surface and there is a claim form in the post.........following an inspection of car i have scratches on both rear arches, split new carbon fibre front wings, broken indicator and scratched headlight unit. kerb damage to both nearside wheels and waiting to get it checked for alignment!!!!! have a noise in gearbox to but need to get that checked as well......the drive was brilliant till this happened but i think i was lucky as the other accident looked like a head on which i would'nt have wanted!! That will be SMA then. Has a very poor grip levels until the bitumen is worn off the stone.

they should always have road signs out stating new road surface with slippery road sign under it.

They probably didn't put the signs out wich has put them in a sticky situation legally, hence them writing to you.

no its the other way round its an old surface that has lost grip on the surface due to wear.....it makes you realise how open you are when there's hedgerow landing in the car but i can recommend sikaflex for the front cycle wings as they split rather than come off only put em on a month ago with the new wheels and bonnet etc
