Okay, so the epic journey didn't quite happen....
I got to just north of Stevenage when the sun disappeared to be replaced by mist, cloud, fog etc etc. It was fricking freezing!!! Considering I'd
been in broad London sunshine 45 mins previously I decided to turn round especially as I was having a few problems running on all cylinders...
I was planning on doing (97*2) miles today but in the end did 30 miles in both directions... So basically under a third of the planned route....
Still, hopefully enough to prove to SWMBO that I'll be able to drive to the wedding in a couple of months without fear of breaking down....
(might not mention the 3 cylinders thing)...
Plus sides-
nothing fell off
confirmed that the windscreen offers some protection against wind blast
Down sides-
despite looking cute, the current mirrors are F'ing useless (I was using the force for most overtakes...)
mixture is way too rich on mid-throttle settings (after prolonged cruising the engine starts spluttering a bit and (I think) ran on 3 cyl for a
while)
current tracking is pants- very skittish...
dials are misting up (why don't they make them with the vents automatically built in??)
The rough running after cruising is a pain. If I drop down a cog and give it the beans it soon (ie 5 seconds) goes back to normal but if I try and
flog it without changing the revs it fluffs a bit (presumably burning off the rich mixture) before launching off into the horizon.... Looks like I
just need to keep the revs up then... Just hope it's not washing the bores....
PS any info on some nice chromed mirrors with long-ish stalks is greately appreciated!!! I'm mounting them in the middle of the triangle on the
support bracket (cos it looks nice) so they need to go quite high....
Plan A is to switch from
to
but I worry that won't be enough.... and they're not exactly cheap if they prove inadequate....
I used Honda moped mirrors which are cheap and work really well - Mine are black, but I'm sure you could get some in chrome.
Stu
Yup- used some of those for SVA but I can't see a way of twisting the head so that they mount on the sides but the mirror still sits horizontally..... Perhaps I'm being dim, I'll go and have a fiddle...
Would these mirrors be at a similar "stand off" from the side of the car? I ask because one is double the price of the other!! I think its
an optical illusion because of the entry point for the arm.... Whatya reckon anybody?
