Went out for a "nice" blat this afternoon. Left Leeds, up the A61 through Harrogate, turn left onto A59 then it happens....massive queue of
traffic following huge tractor. Cones on road so no passing. Like this all the way past Blubberhouses at 10mph! Then it happens, it starts to rain!
Then it rains harder. Eventually get to turnoff and head towards Ilkley, only there's some event on there too so the traffic is queuing all
through there! Try to turn up towards Ilkey moor to miss the worst and the road is closed so have to head back for the queue! Get through there and
open up on dual carriageway to dry myself, then think about popping down Pool Bank to Leathley etc, bl00dy great big queue! Sulky spin in road, back
home and car in garage!
2 1/2 hours of queuing It's the future of driving....
My mate spent two hours following traction engines on their way to Pickering on Friday. He was not happy!!
Loads of traction engines around this way as well for the Haverhill steam rally.
I only go out on a saturday in the summer if its a show or work, and for both of them i leave right early.
The roads seem to be jammed up on saturdays nowadays, 65 million peeps my arse we need a proper head count
Did 25 miles of B-roads today and didn't see another soul....got to love the north of scotland....Oli.
"your all the wrong side of the boarder!"
Well I was on the A59 earlier in the week and there was notices of the road being closed.
And as this weekend was the biggest steam collection in Pickering you can see getting stuck behind one is no surprise....
I would gladly get stuck behind an ancient steam traction engine as they must be the most beautiful mode of transport every invented. Well, along with
steam engines.....
Have a butchers at my signiture and you'll see where my heart lies.....
We have connections with Stephenson round here as well. We are going to see this soon on a steam day, not a traction engine but still an engineering masterpiece.
Came back from the Hertford meet today - ended up behind an old London double-decker that could just about manage 30mph in a 60mph zone!
There are advantages in driving a seven - 1 bus and 3 cars passed in one overtake, in just a few seconds!
