My darling swmbo managed to 'not remember' shattering a front rim on a pothole (she thinks) and then coming home on the resulting flat tyre which then shredded itself - but she still kept going.

"I think it pulls a little bit to the right" she said

Awww bless

I put a dent that size in a steel wheel about a year ago

I was up north (inverness way) on a single track road, and some wee ned in a saxo came round a corner towards me at 70+ mph
I was doing 40 to 50 - so my only option was to put 2 wheels on the verge - trouble was the verge was one massive pothole... it was one hell of an impact

anyway - if happens again get 4 steel wheels - they could be cheeper than one new alloy

my wife phned me last friday and told me she had had a crash.

she was in the outside lane going straight on at the roundabout, whilst this German in a van was in the left lane and turned right straight into her.

Cops said if he had been a brit they would have done him for dangerouse driving but since he was german he was just told to go home.

the car is 5 months old a mini cooper S works and he has twisted the shell, bent the rear suspension and damage the rim,

the car will be off the road for weeks and cost thousands to repair. direct line said he is german so we will not go after him and you will have to pay the excess i replied you have a contract with me to go for the barsteward and if you dont i will sue you for breach of contract

could be worse wife and son could have been hurt.

What a strange story....

if it was me i would have given the case to my insurance to atleast pay you.

Every car in the EU has the greencard, it means that every car driveing in the eu has as little as a WA assurance (third party)

sow i have no idea wy the cops did let go that german. Your story stinks!!

(i would talk to the kids, and to that police man )

ditchlewis - 5/9/07 at 03:41 PM

Herr Barsteward did not have any documents with him and said he would fax them to the police...

becauses he is in germany now the police cannot be bothered to prosecute him . i believe he has faxed his details through to the police

Direct line had a problem with the language difference, but since i have legal cover then they may chase him via an interpreter.

the £500 excess was pushed on us because the car as the full works body kit and ws concidered a custom car

very very unsatisfatory

we have a witness who blames him, and his witness ( another German car) refused to give a statement to the police "i saw nothing" i think the answer was.

I'm still fuming

as anything car related in the last three weeks has turned to Poo. (MPV gone wrong, company car blew up, wifes car crash, Indy still not finished and i put a scratch on the rear wing.........

I'm off to catmandoo to get away from it all

Wy looks that sow soft? When i enter an eu country nothing happens, i enter the UK and the imigration service waits for me! Now an germany a** creates an accident and who is later to blame??

i feel very sory for you and your wife. i say it because i'm one of the person who in live realy used the EU services and thiskinds of things just put me mad.

russbost - 5/9/07 at 04:48 PM

If you have legal cover I'm sure you can insist they go after him, that is just the sort of thing the legal cover is for - best of luck getting it sorted

Your insurance can help you out.

Get some legal advise, U will get your money.

If you have the numberplate, a police-officer as withness including a report, you will get your money.

In my opnion the german had to get a fee for not having his green-card!

So don't give up too easy

I got hit by a spanish articulated truck once (two lanes merging into one, he didn't see me just to the side of him and drove striaght into my rear quarter, thankfully at about 5mph). I was insured with Direct Line at the time, I got my car repaired at their approved bodyshop within a fortnight, and had a cheque for my excess back less than a week after that. So they can do it...

It may have helped that I had called the police and they presumably got all of his details. I called them because the driver totally refused to get out of the cab, or even turn the engine off, he just sat there as if he was waiting for me to move my car out of the way so he could leave. To be fair, when the copper finally arrived and convinced him to get out he was a tiny little bloke, and I was ranting a little

I am pushing direct line to get all my money back.

BMW/Mini have been great, got a 120d Msport as a curtesy car and we paid the £10 inssurance that means if they cannot recover the money then we dont pay for the hire.

the down side is the wife wants a 120d Msport as her next car

we took the car to Mini to be repaired as it is under 5 months old and we want to get a full warrenty that will be acceptable when we sell the car. Direct Line were reluctant but agreed.

hope things will be sorted with out too much hassel.

still waiting for a payout on the sons scooter accident in january, he was knocked off and injured with the scooter snapped in half

they are happy to take money, but not to give it out where it is due
