The last day I'm likely to ever drive my Indy and I managed to stuff it into the bloody hedge

Tax and insurance are up this Friday and I had resigned myself to seeling up in a couple of months. Time and money are set to be in very short supply with a 2 year old and twins due in a few weeks.

Decided to get one last drive in and took the Indy to work this morning. Greasey roads and a frankly fekin' stupid frame of mind saw me slide off a roundabout, miss a lamp post be literally 1" and come to rest in a very thick gause hedge. Ultimaltely it could have been a lot worse as no one else was involved and no damage to public property other than a few tattered bushes.

The car has suffered a bent lower front wishbone and some superficial scarrin to the nose and cycle wings. The chassis looks to be fine and no damage to the sump or underside.

Fortunately a couple of work friends were close behind and stopped to help me drag it out of the hedge and followed me on to work.

I am so bloody mad with myself right now I can't actually be doing with looking at the car for the time being.

Sorry to hear that Nick, main thing is that you're okay. The car can always be fixed, your body however is a different matter.

It sounds like the damage is pretty light. Take the car home, have a good look at it later. Take your time, replace the damaged parts and then sell it (if you still need to).

I guess claiming on your insurance would be OK, if you aren't keeping the car?

Sorry to hear about it, but glad you're ok. Sounds like a simple fix though, new 'bone and some tlc should do. If you start feeling any odd pains in the next week, make sure you get them checked out though, as accidents can do funny things to your innards.

Have a word with these claims companies, you might be able to sue yourself for damages and make some money.

I had an 'off' at Harewood and badly bent the NSF wishbone - I replaced it and went on to check all the geometry - it was all still spot on!

So I would say the damage is likely be just the wishbone - you don't need to worry about the chassis.

You can just polish the rest

Careful with the Insurance Co.. check you have "Comuting" included on your policy before mentioning you were going to work.

Mine specifically excludes Commuting.

Forewarned etc etc..


PS... glad you are OK, and the car is reasonably so.

My isnurance is TPF&T anyway so no claim in the equation. TBH I wouldn't bother claiming even with fully comp. The time and ultimate expense of making a claim would outweigh the effort involved in replacing the parts myself and getting it back ship shape.

On closer inspection, the lower wishbone has deformed very evenly and the top one looks fine. I will replace both as a matter of course and they all needed re-painting anyway so no major hassle really.

Still feeling like a pratt though

oh well, these things happen.

Also better in a hedge than hitting something hard like a tree or another car/truck.

I'd get it repaired asap if I were you, then you're not pi**ing yourself off everytime you walk past it in the garage...

i pranged mine on the last run out before the tax ran out too.

i know the feeling. gorse bushes do a lot less damage than the corsa i hit though.

i was lucky it wasn't the side of a truck i'd gone under, hence the full cage on the new one.
