Locost Route Planner through Scotland

My mate is getting married this year, I think 
, well I have an invite to the important bit, his stag do anyway! 
It's in Fort William, in mid June. So assuming it will be sunny, I'm thinking I'll leave the sensible, reliable diesel at home and
take the toy car instead. 
Basically I'm hoping that the Scottish branch of Locostbuilders will help me with my route planning!
So, Newcastle to Fort William, the interesting way! Multimap / splat nav puts it at about 250 miles each way, but that is A69, M74 etc etc.
Newcastle to Peebles is one of my favourite routes, but I could easily divert to Edinburgh, then Stirling and across country from there. Or go West
towards Glasgow and up.
It'll be an all day blat, so I should be able to pass through the busy bit of Scotland before rush hour! Hopefully!
So Gentlemen, over to you for your suggestions of interesting / fast / quiet roads through Scotland!

There is no other road suitable for Sevenning.
You could always tell us what day and we could arrange a little welcome at a suitable venue.

Take the A82 up the side of Loch Lomond then via Tyndrum and across Rannoch Moor. Takes you through Glen Coe and then onto Fort William. Stunning
views and good long straights. Howver should the sun not shine take your waterproofs.
There are ways to get around going straight through Glasgow but best to look at the map. Take a look at the route through Kirkintilloch to Milton of
Campsie onto Blanefield heading towards Drymen (A809) then turn left onto the A811 heading for Balloch. Then once in Balloch look for the A82. Can
give you more details if needed. Have a good one.

Mango, that's just the kind of road that I want!
Zil, I've driven the A82 before (in a tin top) and am a bit worried it'll be full of trucks / caravans and cops! I'd hate to leave
Balloch and get stuck behind a caravan for 80 miles! Does the road flow well, with plenty of overtaking spots?
Thanks for the offer of a welcoming party, but it'll be a Friday when I drive up, so I guess most peeps will be at work. It'll be Sunday
when I come back down though!

And if you want to go just a little bit further up do the Applecross road and you will think you have gone to heaven

The road is a mix of twisty and straight bits.
You won't have trouble finding places to pass.
Regarding the Sunday coming home, what's the date ?
We're due a locost type day at our venue.

this is the same road that i would have said to take good driving roads and should take about 20-25 mins to get to balloch from glasgow depending on
the rush hour on a friday

You could try joining the Tour7 list of Se7en.net and see if anyone has the tulip guide as a .doc from the Haggis Hunt tours. If the Lynch The
Lepracauhn tour I went on was anything to go by, they've sourced some pretty damn good roads....
The only thing I can add is- take a Tomtom with an up to date speedcamera database...

probably a bit of a diversion but if you can take in the to B974 Fettercairn to Banchory road it is worth it! I had to give up half way at easter and
drive sensibly (in the Civic) because my brakes had faded to a scary degree!!!

That's more than a detour mate, that's a whole new trip on its own
