looks jolly nice - why no triangulation on the floor instead of those 4 long parallel tubes?

FUORISERIE - 19/6/07 at 03:29 PM

that looks really good, nice chassis layout., will follow your build, and wait for more.
keep it up......

Cheers

That looks bloody ace! Just been looking through some of you photos! Is there anything you have not made yourself?

Is that plasma cutter thing in your garage?!?!

Cheers,

Alan

Cheers...

I bought the wheels and tyres...

Yes, the plasma is in the building from which I just wheeled it out.

Thanks..

If you feel like throwing some wheel arches (fenders) and absolute mimimal bodywork on....be my guest...your styling work is very impressive....

I'll even give you a mention say like a badge on the side or something if I use your ideas.....

nitram38 - 19/6/07 at 05:03 PM

MMMMM........two of my favourite things, Cars and Florida!!!!!!!!!!
I have been 4 times since 96 and hopefully will be over again next year.
Perhaps a locost club meeting will be in order!
Very nice design! This is the stage at which you actually believe that it will be a car and not just some welded tube.
Keep going, my build is right behind yours !

Browser - 19/6/07 at 06:10 PM

Is that your workshop behind the cars you git?!!!!!!!!!
If it is I HAAAAAAAYYYTTTEE YOUUUUUUU!!!!!!

Alan B - 19/6/07 at 06:15 PM

You probably should hate me more...that's just the fab and assembly shop..the machine shop is behind that building...

However, I will add it is used for some of my business projects...it's not all fun...the secret is to pick a line of work with good perks..

kreb - 20/6/07 at 04:17 AM

Looks great Alan! I should be so productive!

I seem to recall that you built a torchmate kit. Are you able to get by without torch height adjustment? If you have it, which type?

Alan

Thanks for the comments.....

Will see what I can do for you....., but I do need a few more pictures to base the rough sketches on, do you have a front and rear 3/4 views ?, I could use the side view image of your avatar....

Where is the radiator located? up front or on the sides?

Will be waiting for your pictures before I start a few sketches for you................and the badge is ok for a start......

Italo

Yes, for the most part I do get by....mainly because I'm cutting smallish parts and levelling up the material and doing a dry run first.....However, automatic torch height control would be a great addition.

Italo, I have a few more pics in my archive...as for the rad, my initial thought is up front..but I'm flexible..

Alan

downloaded the pictures and will try to get a few roughs soon...............a stupid question is this a 2 seater or 3 seater?

I haven't followed your Tiki build, and couldn't find other info in the forum.

Will get my pen and markers out now........

In his "Wheels" thread he says it's a 3 seater.

Tralfaz is correct...3 seats.

FUORISERIE - 24/6/07 at 04:17 PM

Alan,

Sorry for the delay with the sketches, but I having problems with my scanner.........

So you will have to bear with me, with some earlier sketches I did without having your pictures....

Just napkin roughs for you to get an idea........

FUORISERIE - 24/6/07 at 04:19 PM

another rough

[Edited on 24/6/07 by FUORISERIE]

FUORISERIE - 24/6/07 at 04:21 PM

last very rough sketch.........hopefully other stuff coming soon.....

Alan B - 24/6/07 at 05:04 PM

Hmmm...some nice ideas and touches there...I like them...

Alan

sgraber - 24/6/07 at 07:40 PM

Italo, I like the short nose of your design.

Alan the retro green hard fiberglass seats in your rendering are a nice touch. LOL.

Seriously though, will this be a semi-beach car? Not going in the sand, but for people with swimsuits and sandy clothing/swimsuits? I would think that a (partial) mesh chassis bottom and plastic seats would be ideal.

Alan B - 24/6/07 at 07:54 PM

Yeah, the car reflects the Florida lifestyle, sun, sand, surf, bars, etc (or California, Hawaii etc.)...so waterproof/washable interior would be very useful....

So we need a dune buggy design approach to this car, more than an exo-skeleton design........

I like the idea of the beach buggy....

Actually I want to focus more on the exoskeletal aspect......or I guess more like sand rail as opposed to beach buggy....more tubing, less body work....absolute minimum, or at very least very easy bodywork.......

Alan

sgraber - 25/6/07 at 03:13 PM

A nose cone and tail section moulded as Italo has drawn, but with translucent fiberglass paneling for sides would be really REALLY cool.

Attach the fiberglass side panels inside, so that the tubing remains exposed outward.

I recall the 340R having translucent sides?

Alan B - 25/6/07 at 03:21 PM

I don't recall the sides of the 340R just off the top of my head, but it is certainly another car of inspiration......Yes I do like Italo's front and rear sections....I'm just dreading the whole mold making scenario again.....

Busy on the front end right now...could have it fully rolling in a couple of weeks...Steve, was it the Geo Metro rack that you said was a suitable one?

"scenario?".... yes. I see what you mean. My next design will be slab sided! Or just plastic abs sheets formed with a heat gun.

The geo metro rack indeed. Almost identical to the early MR2. Might even be from the same manufacturer!

Ratman - 26/6/07 at 05:30 AM

slab sided? hmmm, thats a thought.

FUORISERIE - 26/6/07 at 07:18 AM

The Rinspeed Exasis is a good example of a frame chassis, covered with coloured polycarbonate............the design is an aquired taste...

something like the Twin-tech ?

Yes, much like the twintech. Simplicity rules!

This thread really makes me want to move close to the beach, just so I can own a Tiki!

seriously.

Steve,
I totally agree with you, a very simple chassis to manufacture, and very limited bodywork to work with...........a few more sketches are coming soon..more buggish....

FUORISERIE - 28/6/07 at 12:45 PM

Old rendering, something a little different.....still exo-skeleton but more retro-ish........just before you get the other rough sketches posted...

kreb - 30/6/07 at 04:02 PM

Here's something fun. Since there's a beach buggy theme, what about you do a partial skin - in a mahogany ply?! Sandwhich the ply in a couple layers of fiberglass and you've got a middie - modern-buggy-woodie.

Syd Bridge - 30/6/07 at 04:52 PM

There was a wood skinned Locost thing at the Southampton Boat Show, a couple of years ago. Showing off the workmanship of a particular boatbuilder.

Looked quite nice, in polished mahogany with ash and spruce trim.

Like this........

FUORISERIE - 2/7/07 at 10:57 AM

I had some difficulties in finding the design, but I thought a modern Atv -quad design influence, could be fitting with your mid-engine chassis...

FUORISERIE - 2/7/07 at 12:06 PM

a very rough quick sketch........
