Home made bonnet 'catches' possible?
John.Taylor - 18/4/09 at 01:23 PM

SVA on Monday and I can't find my bonnet catches, realised last weekend and ordered new from company who will remain nameless but they haven't arrived in todays post and that was the last chance.

I need to make something but would a couple of strips of aluminium strips riveted down in place of the missing catches, plus numerous spares for during/after the test be ok? If not, would bolts & nut covers instead of rivets be ok? What other alternative do I have?

I would have thought anything which will hold the bonnet down without sharp edges would do. - a couple of bungee cords might be ok

Bear in mind that you will have to remove the bonnet at the test.

Ali strip would be filed and sanded to chamfer and rivets are domed and could have a blob of PU to fill the hole. Would this be ok?

I would add some small pieces of angle or bent strip to the top chassis rail ,then using self tappers fix through the bonnet to the angle brackets, you could use plastic number plate screw covers to hide the fixing.Dont make the holes to big ,and try and make the hole were you need the catches to be.
